City Relationships, and Marrying

Two things I have always been wondering since I've been playing, if anyone can clue me in:

1.)  What does having a relationship with a city do?  I know with a village, you can recruit more young mens to get killed in your campaigns, but what does this do with a city.  I suspect it gives you a discount on things?

2.)  I always branch off into my own kingdom eventually.  Does marrying into a good family (AKA a father in law with good renown!) eventually give me an edge in recruiting them, or is this all just fluff?

depends on whether you are playing native or a mod. In native, if you have a bad relationship with a city they won't let you build enterprises there. Don't think there is anything else for it there. But in some mods, like diplomacy, if you own a city and get a bad enough relationship with them, they rebel. You  know come to think of it I can't recall a single good thing having a high relationship with a city does.

1) Besides getting items on the cheap and selling them for more money.... why would I want that? You can get some great discounts by 99.

If you sell the lion's share of your loot in a favourite Town (for example because you own it and it's central to your faction) and also usually buy provisions there, it's definitely worth it to improve the relationship with your town for the discount. Will get/save you quite a bit of money extra. Besides, it gives you something to do in times of peace.
