city architecture/design

Hi I just wanted to point out a thing that has bothered me for awhile, escpecially since versions 0.9+
it´s the fact that the designs/look/architecture in the cities/towns all look the same, even though the nations have really different cultures  :???:
it would be a nice touch if the cities who belonged to different factions had different types of architetcture, it would both immerse the feel of difference between the factions and add some  more variation to the game, visually.
This should/could also apply to indoor places like the taverns, castlehalls etc (since honestly I don´t walk around in the towns that much anymore sinse the menu´s got so upgraded xD).

I hope this hasn´t been discussed already but I didn´t really find another similar topic ~~

Argh, you douche! You think that's even possible to do???

Just kidding, yeah it would be a nice touch...

wow then it must be good!

seriously though it has been bothering me for quite awhile now.
and some of the generals look like they are from the other factions, but that could more easlily be explained ~~

Good idea.  Some variation would be nice.  Helped me remember where I was in Morrowind/Oblivion.

btw: no need to ask for deletion, the mods can (and probably will) move it to the correct section.

If there's not a history thread somewhere explaining that, then I elect you to start one.  Would expect it to include the origins of the Vaegir's and Kherg's (ie: are the a 'nationality', or just a 'class'?).

totally agree. very simple, when you walk into a khergit city, it should feel khergit. swadian, as it is in game now i guess. Nord, more long houses, vaegir and so on... you should know where you are without having to look at the name or location on map.

All the architecture should be Swadian based but individualised to each factions needs.

thanks guys  xD

what do you mean exactly? I´m way too tired to follow right now (5am)

I wouldn't be surprised if this was already on the to-do list.  The villages have clearly different art sets.  Remember that M&B is still in development, and what we have access to is a transient snapshot of an ongoing creative turmoil.

Yeah, except all of the cities are Swadian cities.

All of Calradia belonged to the Swadians, who built all the cities, perhaps with the exception of one or two Khergit cities, before the Vaegir slaves rebelled, the Khergits revolted, the Rhodoks came up from the south and the Nordic dragon-ships sailed down the zendar river and burned the **** out of the coastal cities.

really? I had no idea they made a history for the addition of the newer factions.

still some change should come to the cities...sooner or later >___>

He means all cities should have a "base" design, which would be swadian. Then each faction would have different details and such, but all with the same base.

Or even more simple, all architectures should look a little swadian.

aha okay, yeah that would work aswell ^^

I'm not sure that's what he meant, but it certainly makes sense.  As a side bonus, it makes life easier for the artists.

edit: ok, it seems that is what he meant.  My reply was made before/during the merge.

Well, what if they looked like Swadian cities somewhat, but more of a modified city. i.e a khergit city would have some building that have swadian architecture but also have parts added on that look khergit. it might make for more orignal city.

yeah, it´s not like the people change culture just because they´ve conquered a few cities.
I think they would add their own flair, a little piece of home, so to say
either way, it would add to some variety in the city, even something cosmetical like this makes a game feel deeper :]

Yeah, agree sweet idea. the Khergit cities would need the biggest overhaul, though. And the populace of the city could reflect the faction/geography, e.g fair-haired white people in the Nordic cities and dark-skinned people for the khergits. Or whatever. But yeah, aesthetics are always important in a game. good idea.

thanks. and yeah it should apply to the citizens aswell, but ofcourse some mix in the culture, with people from the other nations present. that was a good addition, I didn´t really think of that more than I think the generals should look their part aswell (which most of them do´I think?) :]

The culture mix with people is a good idea too. Like i have mentioned in other threads during the Crusades people from europe that stayed long term adopted many of the Middle Easts ideas. So this could also be adopted into M&B
