Choose your battle!

I don't know if this has already been posted, but I had an idea about being able to set up, before battle encounters, booby traps. You could have like stakes for taking out calvary or nets for infantry, a wall or enclosed area, or even just choosing your starting place or knowing where the enemy will start. You could start it by just waiting in the world map and setting up the battlefield there, and then lure unwitting enemis to it. To get the materials for the booby traps by buying them from weapon merchants or loot them of the enemy. Plus the enemy can set up the same thing and lure us to there fortress. Then after the battle you can loot the booby traps. And you could have the spot ability be used for spotting trapped areas as well. I think this is a really cool idea but I don't know how much time it would take or anything like that, I am an idiot with computers, but give me you comments!

It IS a fascinating idea. Just one with an enormous potential for frustration. Right now, you can have just one or two hit points left, but if you keep your eyes open, and your timing is good, you can still pull out a win. Throw booby traps into the mix, and you can just be killed out of the blue. At worst, it's a guaranteed peril simply because you don't have the skill to see it, and therefore you're totally helpless. At best, it's another thing you have to watch out for. I'm not sure that added dimension would be engrossing, or just plain maddening.

I am not saying the traps should be hidden but just used as obstructions, thing s you have to avoid like stakes at a 45 degree angle in the ground or walls, not really booby traps I guess more like a fortress. I agree booby traps would be very maddening and the whole net Idea was a bad one.

The stakes might be interesting, though annoying for those players who fight on horseback. But what the hell. I mostly just go after cavalry anyway. One concern I expressed last time I saw the idea proposed was that if an enemy is close enough behind you that you can see each other, which you'd have to be for them to come after you, you wouldn't have a lot of time to set up those sorts of fortifications. Also, there is the matter of your cavalry. At present, all your mounted units are so stuipid, they'd probably just charge those stakes head on.

Also, the traps wouldnt be hidden in the battlefield, but in the world map, where if you had high enough spot you could see which places have had a fortress set up. you could even throw in a new skill for setting them up or have it be a part of the tacitcs skill
