"But Dain!" You cry "The horse rigging is completely shot to hell!"

"Yes" I reply (Looking grave yet wise as I do so) "But that is because the current BRF editor is currently ****ed up. The rigging is fine"

"So if we had a BRF editor which could import horses properly, this would work fine?"

"YES."

 
"But Dain! This must be a major modding breakthrough!"
Then you say

There are some drawbacks.

The chariot itself jiggles a little as the horse gallops, but I imagine this is solveable through me fiddling with the rigging or another method.
The main problem of course is that the horse hitboxes are still in the same place. So the horse will take damage when shots hit the chariot, and enemies only take charge damage as the enemy rolls over them. That one is unsolveable unless we can mod hitboxes.

Still (once the horse rigging is sorted) it looks good. Rather like the elephants in Hegemony.

So, the chariot itself is rigged to the horse?

I remember that Mirathei made an elephant tower and chariot script that was based on scene props

Wait...Couldn't you rig it somehow so that the horse uses the horse's hitbox, and the chariot just uses collision meshes (like the siege tower, for example)?

Yeah, it was a script that spawned a scene prop behind a certain type of horse - "chariot horse" and adjusted it's position based on the horse's location.

Basically, the rider of the chariot horse would have an item -> ti_on_weapon_init.
When the weapon is drawn, it calls a script to spawn a chariot with some archers to follow the location of the horse.

He had a similar concept for the elephant towers.

But that's not rigging - only the horse is rigged in that situation - the chariot just uses scripts to follow the horse.

This is awesome!  Going to have to keep an eye on this.  Mmm, charioty goodness...

On a more serious note, when/if a BRF editor with better horse rigging capabilities is made, will you be releasing this for other modmakers to use (with permission obviously)?

So long as it's the chariot's trunk. Jiggle in the trunk is what it's about.

I was just thinking about the jiggle.  Depending on how it looks, it could actually look better it left in then removed, making the chariot look as though it's slightly bouncing over uneven ground.  Of course, I don't know what it actually looks like, if the jiggle looks like ****e then that's different :grin:

I was actually planning a sort of horse racing in my mod, but haven't implemented it yet. I'm just saying a mod with chariots but no chariot races would be disappointing. To me anyway.
 
hmmm.....  If the horse was rigged 100% to a single bone and their legs didn't have to move (or exist) then we wouldn't have a rigging problem, right?    I'm thinking POD RACING !  :wink:
