Chariots and dual weapons

I was watching hercules on tv the other night when it occured to me that chariots would be a cool edition to mount and blade, also two weapons or dual weapons would be an excellent addition too

Chariots were long gone by the medieval era.

Though I believe war wagons were used.

I don't really see a need for dual wielding. Companion weapons are usually defensive in nature, designed to do pretty much the same thing a shield does. I don't think they saw much use outside of fencing academies.

Well, there you have it. Your second weapon could act as a shield. Your primary weapon speed would increase, because you dont have a big ol' shield in the way, but your blocking ability would still be limited to melee only. So you could have a 2 hander, with normal speed and melee blocking, 2 one handed swords, with faster attacking and melee blocking, or 1 one handed sword with normal speed and full-range blocking.

That's pretty balanced, I think...

The 2 one handers would do less damage than the 2 handed sword, but you would attack faster. To be able to block missiles, you would need to give up some speed and damage, though.

HEAR HEAR!! ORION.

But for real good idea(not that id use it) yes no missle block but faster!
then agin how realistic is this? not vary. In REAL life*pretends hes got up from the computer in the last 7 KAGH'BLAGHS*(too much star trek)

ok back to what i was saying not for real, not outside of fenceing schools. you fight once for your life with this wepontry and youll knw its all about swords jabing and shilds clanging. Hell 1/2 of the time you never even saw the blow comeing that kills you!

id say its a good idea, dual weilding would be a nice immersion factor or at least to have a dirk that could be used back hand in the offset for blocking mele.

Dual wielding is extremely difficult.
If second weapon is used as a sheld.... YOu still have to parry and it's useless against missles.

The advantage og using 2 weapons over one is that you can parry and attack at the same time, but missile weapons are scary.
I fight with a 1 handed sword and a dagger on a regular basis and like the combination, It is realy efficient by the rules and hit areas we have defined in reenactment fighting but im not so sure if it would be that in a real fight.
I have to try it out later when i get myself a bit more protection and can fight "huskarl" witch includes all the body as a hit area.

No dual weapons, please! They were hardly ever used, wielding two long weapons is impractical, shield serves much better (the hands specialize - noone is able to cut with left hand properly anyway). It's a cheap fantasy flick, introduced by modern movies and RPGs.

NOOO! Not the dual wielding discussion AGAIN!

I'll wrap it up for you
1)Realistic? Yes, there are some historical references to dual wielding.
2)Common? No, most warriors preferred shield or 2 handed weapons over dual wielding.

Well, it's not common but is a strong indicator of self-reliance, good physical condition, and solid background of use of weapons! :D Also, it gives your enemy the feeling that he is such an empty threat that you do not need to defend yourself and you are using double weapons to minimize the time you spend for eliminating him

well dual wielding is not necessarily defensive and it isn't that hard, I mean I did kendo for a while and the kodachi (the short sword) that's used on the left hand is more like an opportunity weapon: you make you opponent block your long sword and when he does you stab or whack him with your short sword
I guess main gauche daggers were used in a similar way.
I think this feature would be a must in a samurai or renaissance mod, but off hand weapons should only be short ones... so yeah to those D&D double weapon fans I am against those things (yeah right, try using that double flail without bashing your own skull in)

At least in ancient japan dual wielding was used! Of course for the current time frame of m&b its not really needed to be included,
but the option to use dual wielding would be nice to have!

I can assure you by the fact that you have now inflamed a tumor building up in my brain that there will NEVER BE DUAL WIELDING OFFICIALLY MADE FOR THIS GAME.

I dont know if dual wielding could be modded into the game, if it could, it probably would be quit difficult. :P

The only thing we can do is to wait and to see what the imperial court will do.

I don't know whether I'd want dual weapons in the game but they shouldn't be barred out on grounds of realism. It wasn't just Japan where the dual wielding style was used. There are records of Irish Warriors during the time of Brynn Buru (probably misspelled) the first High King using two weapons including his own son in the battle where both his son and him died. (This may infact discourage people from wanting to use dual weapons) So certainly as there are Viking-like people wandering around you could include the style.

Since no-one else seems to be about to quote my genious from the previous thread, I'll have to do it myself:

As a conclusion it appears that wielding 2 weapons at a time has been done occasionally but it was extremely difficult, rare and unsafe, and thus it is questionable if such a marginal practice would be worth the (most likely rather extensive) trouble of coding into the game. It's really up to armagan now.
I'm so smart.
