Yes, it's vista.
Basically UAC (user account control), deciding in it's infinite wisdom, that it should protect your program files directory from viruses by not letting anything access it, and therefore causing far more damage and annoyance than any virus ever has, has sent your character export file to a second mount and blade folder here:
C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program
Files\
Paste that into your folder directory (with your user account name), or turn on "View hidden files and folders" to get there.
You can:
A) Disable UAC to stop this from happening in the future (this won't be an issue unless you spend all your time visiting porn sites without a fire wall and whilst uninstalling all your anti-virus software, and will save you a lot of head aches like this).
B) Right click and select "Run as administrator" everytime you want to run a program.
C) Right click, options, and set to "run as administrator" on the .exe file. (For some reason UAC always seemed to revert this for me, but it seems to work for other people).
D) Just keep going as you are, and go to the virtual store everytime you want to see your files.
Keep in mind that if you choose A, B or C you'll have to go to the virtual store and copy paste all of your save files, etc, or they won't show up in the games that you play.
