Character Backstories

I've been curious about this ever since families were confirmed. As you all know, in Warband you could weave together a backstory for your player which determined their starting stats. Assuming this is still a part of the game, I wonder if your origin story can determine the state of your immediate family. Whether or not your parents are dead, how many siblings you have if any, and other similar details.

I do hope you can start out with a family. It would be a nice change of pace to have established ties with people at the beginning of the game.

Starting with a family, maybe even just a sibling or something, would be a nice change of pace I reckon. In the character creation screen you could choose stuff about your family and their state or even something like "I never knew my parents/family" if you don't want to start with any connections.

Also nice to see I'm not the only one thinking about character backgrounds

I would like to ask if there has been any news on character creation? (and I'm not taking about selecting physical appearance), has there been any changes from the previous versions of the game? are mother's finally going to be a part of character creation (as both parents should matter in some way)? are going to be able to be a local instead of a foreigner? are we able to start as part of a clan?.

Edit: are we able to start with a family?.

Would you want complete control over this or would you prefer a degree of randomization?

as an option you can think of a type of prehistory "save brother / systra" (as in sid meier s pirates)
and after several rescue missions, he / she joins you

I would like control over the state and existence of my family. I'm might not want a family in every playthrough (though from the sounds of it, having a brother could be very useful).

Not really sure about randomisation. On the one hand it could spice up replayability, on the other it could be annoying to not have the family you want and may change how you roleplay. So maybe the default option should be randomised but the player should have the option to choose to specify their family members instead. So it could be an option in character creation like this:

Blah, blah, blah, and when a traveler asked you about your family you replied...
  • I never knew my family (no family)
  • I have a family (randomised)-then->information about family members "I have a dead father, and two sisters, yada yada"
  • I know my family very well (specificed)-then->I had...
    • X siblings
    • I knew both my parents
    • I never knew my mother
    • I never knew my mother
      • My whole family is alive and well
      • I have lost X
You get the idea (and don't judge my amazing dialogue skills).

Backstory with living family would be really nice as far as I'm concerned.
Agreed.

Oh yeah but sincerely need more details in backstories also these affects relation with a lord or faction for better enjoyability

An important change from Warband that the example characters of Gamescom demonstrated was that they actually originated within the Calradic cultures.
In Warband you were always a stranger from far lands, to explain the lack of connection to the game world. The sample player characters started with a clan, so they should clearly also start with existing family ties.

As Bannerlord has a lot of randomization for its many NPCs, I assume the same can be used for the players family. However, an option to manually design your family at the start of the game would be nice. If that means character creation takes a day or two, so be it.

It would be interesting to determine a simple family relationship when the player character is created. Choices for example:

1. Easy difficulty - you have either a loving brother or sister (or your 19 year old bastard squire or illegitimate heir) automatically added as a bodyguard companion to your party at game start.
2. Normal difficulty - you have either a wayward brother or sister who is a prisoner in the dungeons of the furthest faction from your game start spawn point. Quest to free them and add them to your party as a disruptive companion (upsets other companions or ai notables, gambles/looses party funds etc.).
3. Hard difficulty - you have either a younger brother or sister (or older uncle/aunt) who is a powerful ai Lord at game start and hates you - will be a dedicated enemy. Back story - they stole your inheritance and want you, as the rightful claimant, dead.
4. Mixed difficulty - you have three siblings (mixture of brothers and sisters etc.) - one of each of the above options, all in the same game.

We should have complete control over siblings. In WB, why were we so much connected to our character? Because we designed him or her. We spent countless hours with him or her. We created his or her background story as much as the game offers and also in our minds. These are the most crucial parts of why we have strong connection with him or her.

We should have complete control over character creation of our siblings and we should be able to spend time with them in order to not disconnected with Calradia once our charecter dies.

Good thing but character creation of our siblings is a bit interesting. In other words, I want to roleplay with Haengsson clan, they were part warriors part merchants, we can select vocation of our family members?

As much as I get why people want to have control over starting backstory, I would like the game to figure it out by itself, making each run more unique than ever!

That's a good point as well. Options for both would likely be best. Maybe even a hybrid system, where you can design some relatives, that are really important to you, yourself, and let the rest be auto-generated.
