What about just discarding the Nords as a faction of "vikings" and changing it into an arab/berber/moor influenced one? Would be much more interesting in my humble opinion.
Anyway, it seems you're on the right way, Tostig. Nice work.

On the subject of helmets, it's been slow-going for the past few days, but I'm hoping to have at least some meshes to show of in a week or so.  Then, I realized something while playing .952 last night.  With the new face-generator, you have to option to scale your face width, and the helmet you're wearing changes accordingly.  I don't know whether or not this changes the process of making new models, but I'm going to go ahead and assume it doesn't and keep working...

EDIT:

Had a good little run today, and here's what I'm thinking.  It's just the model, no skin, but it'll give you an idea of what I had in mind as far as Slavic and Russian armor influence go.  I just started it, so if you spot something that should be changed/improved, it's not too late to tell me.

A quick update - I haven't been up to much, having been being swamped by real life (tomorrow I have a driving test and an A2 exam, day after I have two ASes) and the new release has predictable shoved aside all of my coding. It's be nice if they'd release the python stuff so Cymro could get to work, but in the mean time after Wednesday I'll probably work on shipping out the first (rubbish) version (for v 0.953) for you all to sink your fangs into.

That's a damn sight perfect, just the look I had in mind, but the helm itself looks enough like a Norman helm with nasal guard to fit in with the Swadian stuff. Out of interest were you thinking of the faceguard being maille or scale?

Cheers Feerspoir. I think I've answered this on IRC, but for everyone else the Nords will be sticking to Norsemen, at least for the moment. This is because CatG is based on Native, and changing things for the sake of change would be a fairly pointless waste of what meagre resources we have, as well as being a radical change to the setting. However, my knowledge on Scandinavia after Hardrada is pretty scarce. Am I right in thinking that their style of warfare became more "Frankish" after his death, rather than viking? And if it did, would it be better to stick with the Viking theme that Native has going on or to change it, given that I did promise "a more consistent level of technology to Mount and Blade."

Mod is looking real nice.
Cheers

DRAGONSHIPS has sailed for the Nords of Calradia.
For those of you who haven't been lucky enough to hear it yet, take my word that it is awesome. Oh, and brutal.

I'd say keep the Nords "viking" themed. If you turn them into a calradian version of the Normans, they'll be too similar to the Swadians, imo.

Maybe a wrong thread for this, but since this mod is optimizing many things, here goes.

Is it possible to make the horse barding change colour according to your banner, like the shields and armours do?

It's an awesome idea, and one that's been discussed on IRC a fair few times Triglav. The general consensus was that there's nothing stopping it being done by the dev team, but at this present moment in time it'll be impossible to mod in. Whether or not that might change in the future is up in the air.

I'm very curious what magic piece of code makes the specific piece of texture change accordingly.
Too bad I only do textures themselves, not coding associated with them, otherwise I'd be right at cracking this nut

Still...looking forward to this.

That would be awesome to have your horse wearing your colour ! Oh and bty i liked what i read/see.. Good Luck !

I'll take a look at the module system when we get it. In other words, nothing a bit of fiddling can't solve

I know every moderator hates this question but is it out?

Nope. I'll be out when it's out.

Armagan's released two new versions in the time it's taken me to drink a pint. When I get home I'll properly launch into getting a half-decent alpha version ready to be released. After that's out we won't be distracted from the arts assets until there's a modle system for Cymro.

Cheers ENSAIS!

I am too, even though my knowledge of coding doesn't go much further than Winter's tutorials for Python

Sorry for the doublepost, but this is essentially a bump. Just announcing that the Alpha version has been released. See the first post for details.

A few remarks:

a) everything seems a little bit too dark;
b) I sometimes am unable to draw weapons in the middle of battle or in a tavern. As far as I have seen, this refers only to swords (maybe even specific swords?);
c) I'd say Khergit and and the new closed helms are a little bit too rare; only seen 1-2 of each after travelling and visiting all cities of Calradia, whereas kettle helmets are common enough (1 in every 2 cities).

Carry on the good work.

One slight aesthetic problem I have found, The great helm appears to be hovering slightly off the neck of my player.

I dont know if this only occurs with certain clothing, I was wearing mail and surcoat at the time.

Overall though, I like the mod, texture changes are nice although as stated before, certain items are rare, example, I traveled to pretty much all the cities and found but one bastard sword!

Ok, I'll boost the abundancy of the helms in the next version. I don't want them to be very common though - after all, there wasn't a Tesco in medieval times where you could buy one off the shelf. As for the swords, the only thing I can of is that I set some of them as secondary weapons so that knights wouldn't pick them instead of lances. I'll see what I can do. Yes, I suppose it is too dark. In the next version I'll use the light mipmaps.

The bastard swords are rare on purpose. Longswords were very uncommon during the period that I'm basing the technology on (1250s), and bastard swords were only really about "from roughly the early 15th century." As for the helmet, I'm not really sure what we can do.

new track for the khergit khanate 'steppe-child'

nice alpha by the way. helps me grately to feel the atmosphere when composing. plus i get to try it out in game and make adjustments.  so big thumbs up from my perspective.

Edit: personally i love the dark texture, its grubby and dirty. like ye days of olde!

Well, I've been getting back to work. I would have uploaded it now, but it didn't want to work. In the meantime:
Changelog:
Swords fixed.
New Norman helmet with mail coif, similar to guard helmet, but prettier.
Abundancies changed.
Lighter terrain textures.

Hey when i start the game it restart my Pc why does this happen any idea?
I can't think of anything that would have made that happen. Does Native work?

Oh, and Pagan, the music is damn near perfect. At first I was a little unsure of the bells (it made me think of Reindeer), but on reflection it'll work in game.
