I think the your relation to village leaders should be affected by Raids(negative) or Defence (positive) of Village.
If you raid a village your relation to village leaders should decrease.
If you defend a village from a raid your relation to village leaders should increase.
For Example:
I recently came upon a village that was under attack, I determined that I had enough troops to defend the village, so I intervened and saved the village from the attack.
When the battle was over I was disappointed to notice that my relation to village leaders had not changed! Surely they would be grateful that I prevented all their gold and goods from being stolen and saved lives.
It would also be nice to see a dialog where the villagers thanked you (and possibly reward you).
