Has anyone noticed a way to change what your troops default to doing at the beginning of a battle? Charge is the easiest command to give, but the hardest to straighten out from, and my cavalry wastes time bumping in to one another, shuffling around, and turning the wrong way when I have to rush at the start of every fight to tell them to stop, now move here, now back up and turn around...
Wouldn't have to be anything fancy. Even "stand ground" would be an improvement over autocharge.

Bonus points if it's a method that doesn't involve editing lines of raw code across three different script files in two separate folders, blah blah blah... :razz:
 
i surrendered to my fate. Currently i think i have 25 guys mounted, and another 40 in training to become mounted.
Once you get to 60 knights/mamlukes you really won't care anymore.. :grin:
 
The Warband mod 1257 AD had this at one point, not sure if they do anymore....Might I suggest that you go ask them?
 
if you're somewhat quick to scout the terrain of the battlefield you should be able to use the movement flag to place your horsies (and others) at decent positions with plenty of time to spare before the enemy arrives, even if they charge in the beginning.
Seems to me most maps have the best position to fight with advantage a little bit into the field as well, not precisely where you're starting.
 
I wish there was a built-in option to set default orders.  Ideally for each control group, but I support the notion that just having the option to set everyone to charge or hold position would be great.

Battle surely is chaotic... but the lemming rush can be very annoying when facing uncertain odds.  I too find that pressing F1, F1 immediately often results absurdity.  Can't say I've ever outright lost a battle because of this but would surely welcome the small luxury of some options.
 
There's a way to give yourself more setup time by increasing the size of the map.

game is unbalanced, so, when u got 30 cavalry, just let them charge anyway they want, because you gonna win a 30 x 200 fight easly....

my last battle was: 40 cavalry x 200 rhodoks (with +80units mod), and guess what... 1 swadian knight (mine) wounded only....

tooooooooo easy...and i dont wanna continue my saved game, just because its too easy...

Try to conquer a castle/town with a big number of sharpshooters again and then come back and tell me it's easy.

It's pretty damn easy.
 
you really expect people to believe YOU can take over a well guarded city with many sharpshooters with only 40 cavalry units?

bet they all just fell unconscious

Yeah, I tried it, 1257 mod is by far the most complete mod in alpha stage for Warband, it's really great! Once they get a new improved map and work some tweaks, bugs, it'll be largely complete, im already playing it and love the realism of europe and factions, covered armor horses, surcoats, and more!

In battle you start with Hold position, and there are more stuff like mini battlemap and statistics (mebbe their in Native too but I never noticed or activated those)
