Cavalry are OP. Because of dumb AI

Cavalry is the most overpowered class in-game.

Sort of irrelevant in Native. The stupid jump-swing stuff makes that wrong in every sense of the word.

Well, cavalry domination is quite realistic. Even in the late-middle ages, it took a larger number of mixed infantry to stop heavy cavalry. It's never just pikes alone. Pike can't kill cavalry the same way they can in Warband's MP, for example. If you look at the Swiss formation, they use pikes to stop cavalry charges, polearms (such as halberds) to kill bogged down cavalry, and xbows in the center.

Even then, there have been a number of cases where heavy cavalry break through tight infantry formation. After all, this was real humans. Having a thousand pounds worth of steal man riding steal horses at you at 50 MPH is something most of us can't ever imagine.

Having said that, I agree the balance is a bit off. Right now, the balance is based on the fact that Cavalry cost more to recruit and maintain. Even then, they're still more cost effective because they're unmatched. SP BAI needs to be better at holding their formation, I agree. Especially with pikes and shields and what not. This will help balance out a bit. It shouldn't be hard countered though. Infantry should still suffer heavy casualties.

Only in single player though that's possible against AI cav

I'm not talking cavalry just simply breaking through formation with a charge. I'm talking placing high-quality spearmen on the top of a steep hill that means the cavalry literally walk up the hill, and still destroy the infantry because of dumb AI and Mount and Blade's logic of there are NO disadvantages of having a horse, non.

I'm sort of beating a dead horse but there are a couple of interesting observations on Warband SP/AI vs MP here:

If the pikemen in the example were played by humans, the AI knights would fail horribly. If the knights were human the pikemen would probably fail horribly in that position, no matter if AI or human, because (good) cav in  WB successfully swarm around in pikemen rather than attacking head on. On the other hand, if human, the pikemen would probably run to the map edge where they would be near untouchable.

I really hope they make infantry AI use polearms properly in M&B 2.

And what if both the Cavalry and Pikemen where played by humans? That's right, the Pikemen would win, and you'd know this if you ever tried charging someone with a pike on multiplayer, and you'd definitely know that if you charged someone with a pike on WFAS (The pikes are REALLY long on WFAS) on multiplayer.

I agree. They're the reason I never become a vassal for Swadia and stick with Rhodoks or Nords because the game is actually a challenge.

Nice stuff. Though its not just the stats, the AI can be just retarded at times breaking from formation to kills someone. As i said in my first post there is a pike brace in fire and sword but when the first cavalry got to my men they all went for him, obviously, killing him, but they have now broken from formation and will be slaughtered by cavalry.

Although it is not entirely AI. It seems that on custom battle if you have infantry you will get low ranking infantry and if you have cavalry you will have high ranking cavalry. Wtf is with that?

Anyway does anyone know any mods with a pike brace or just a pike brace mod itself?

Native expansion maybe? I believe it has a 'brace spear' function for spearmen that works quite well.

Saw it in action, had to turn it off because it was so incomplete. It works well, but what killed it for me was the lack of an actual "grounded spears" animation. The dudes just stand there and your horse (in my case a heavy charger, with like 70 armor) inexplicably dies instantly in the area surrounding an enemy spearman.

It just turned "OP cavalry" into "dead horses unless you guess the enemy's braced status correctly." I know this isn't a suggestion thread, but a fully-featured pike brace combined with regenerative horse stamina (no more infinite galloping circles around the field) would totally fix cavalry in my opinion.
