Well there's that. But mostly it's about getting to tell people from two counties over to **** off back their own land.

Although I like the idea as much as Teo of the little patchworks of principalities, republic and theocracies spread across Europe. In today's world it's just not te best direction for Europe if we want to mean anything in the 'globalized' world. I am up for some unification, imagine France, Germany, Belgium and Holland forming one central mega-nation in central Europe for example, just like when we started the little EU club back in the 20th century. I like that idea at least as much.

It would harkon back to the days of Carlos Magnus emperor of the Franks.

I think Germany, Italy, Turkey and Slavic countries excluding Russia should create a nation. Like, maybe a central power in Europe. And then France, England and Russia could form the other nation, like, I dunno, one large alliance.
Of course, I foresee Italy joining the latter group at some point.

Maybe not something as insane as france and Germany, but the EU definitely needs some kind of resolultion against countries smaller than Belgium. San Marino, Monaco and Luxembourg are horrendous bordergore and should either be absorbed into their neighbours or declared enemies of Europe.

Given the issue of "balance of power" I doubt any unions like that would be formed between European nations. Would be nice to see it though, because it just might result in fewer nations, more strides for a unified Europe.

Luxemburg is already ridiculous as-is considering more than half of the territory of Luxemburg is officially part of Belgium, and the independent part has most of its govt administration done by Belgium. Anyway, Belgium/Holland/Luxemburg on its own, although gezographically small, would be an economically very important country with a comparable population to Canada.

I'll oppose by arms any attempt at a new union between the Scandie countries. The potato throats and lilting fags will het their grubby hands on our oil money over my cold, mangled corpse.

Just in case some ape thinks I'm fully serious here:

I'd accept a union with Finland, Iceland and Færeyar though. They all seem dour and unwelcoming enough to fit in with us.

Isn't Luxembourg still a major tax haven? There's no way it would be integrated with another country if that's still the case.

Belgium has no right to exist though. Just split it right down the middle and name one half Dutch, the other half French. Voila.

I thought they tried that, you know, Flanders and Walloonia?

Well that's what this topic is all about as well right. You could split tons of European countries, hell  Scotland could have been an independent nation right now.

And yes, Luxemburg is a tax haven, but many countries are tax-havens in certain aspects in Europe such as: Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Switzerland, Austria etc.

Well, I meant integration of the seperate halves into their neighbouring overlords.

And Uhtred: I suppose our government was funding Starbucks NL.

I could get behind this. I love those island people.

You could all just be blonde and blue eyed together whilst making nordic-sounding noises as the world expects you to.

The Icelendings and us can usually understand each other to a degree. So you guys would be the odd men out. But I assume you're used to that already.

Well I've always resorted to speaking English with the Norwegians I've met but for some reason I can speak Danish to my Swedish friend when we're both drunk so there's that. But Faroese sounds like the retarded child of Danish and Icelandic.

Apparently people from some parts of West Norway are better at communicating with Icelanders than the rest. Icelandic and Norwegian are so far removed that they're quite far from mutual intelligibility. Especially phonologically, but they also use different words for many things.

It's funny how the both the Scottish and Catalan nationalist who claim to be on quite the left are reluctant to share their supposed wealth with the rest of the country.

Scotland... wealthy?

And as far I'm aware, most of the wealthier inhabitants voted No to Scottish independence. All the poor ****s voted Yes.

I didn't vote.
