Alright.
So far I've seen not a single person with an even profile number and cats. On the other hand there are some weird exceptions with uneven profile numbers that didn't get them.

Somebody explain this sorcery!

If your normal avatar is a .jpg/.jpeg it will show a cat instead. Those of us with other formats don't get cats.

Hm, mine was a .png when I uploaded it but IIRC tinypic always changes it to .jpg

Every person whose avatar that hasn't changed that I've checked (at least two dozen now) has been a .png.
