There is one VERY useful non-battle item that was extremely useful in medieval times and also could open way for several new mechanics to the game, which are carriages.

They were used by:
Merchants, to transport goods.
Armies, so soldiers could rest in turns while marching, to reduce tiredness and fatigue buildup, also to carry prisoners and wounded soldiers.
Wayfarers, to transport people.

Carriages would be sold in the trade market "Horse&Harness" section of the store and would be tradeable in bartering. They would require you to have at least 2 free horses to pull them for each carriage, else when trying to leave the settlement or leave a bartering negotiation with more carriages than horses that could pull them, you would be prompted: "You don't have enough horses to pull all your carriages. Do you wish to dismantle the excess carriages for their wood?"
For as long as you said no, it would not let you leave the settlement or bartering until you had enough horses to pull all your carriages.

You'd also be allowed to purchase carriages by talking to any Shop Worker inside a "Carpenter" workshop to request them to make one by paying either a good amount of gold, varying with the price of hardwood, the carriages and sumpter horses, or a smaller amount of gold and a fixed amount of hardwood, the gold varying with the price of the carriages and the sumpter horses if purchased together with the horses to pull them.
By purchasing them this would, they would spawn in your inventory together with 2 sumpter horses.

Their effects would be:
  • Reduce the loss of speed suffered by taking prisoners and having wounded soldiers.
  • Increasing the maximum weight you can carry by 500.
  • Reducing the loss of movement stamina and the buildup of fatigue.
  • Allowing you to have "Siege Devices" as troops that do not count to you maximum total of troops.
