What the ****, sea battle and huge boarding action is fine but things get choppy on a 3 vs 6 land battle.

Spec:8 gig of ram
a quad core processor intel core i5-3330 CPU @ 3.00GHz
Nvidia Gforce GTX 650
Win 7 64 bit
You aren't running a tonne of process's while playing are you?, by the looks of things the only problem could be a lack of RAM cache due to a nearly filled hard drive and tonnes of processes's. I've managed to do 7 v 2 land battles with over 150 units per side with cannons on max graphics and it's run fine, and i pretty much have similar specs as you.

Its not super choppy but choppy enough for me to notice.
Not running any other process.
Music get choppy too on land battle.

I had a 53 vs 34 boarding action with not a single FPS drop.
on a 2-3 vs 6 land battle the music get choppy and there some graphical glitch.

Is it consistent with every land battle or just huge ones?, if it's huge ones I'd suggest doing a complete routine cleanup of your system (registery clean, defrag, anti virus etc), clearing all processes except the most vital ones to free up RAM cache and try doing a huge land battle again. If it's every battle then there's some poor optimization somewhere (most likely the water and smoke).

Its every land battle. Ship battle and boarding are fine.
Also, during boarding action, which army is used?  The party or the ship crew?
Then it's most likely the water and smoke effects, try turning down some options and make sure you're running in DX9 (the shaders they use for the water only works well in DX9 mode). During boarding your party joins the fight, the only thing crews do is fix your ship and reload the guns (the more you have the faster it goes).

Can not walk around in any town / big city.
The game have almost no quests.
Ship combat is extremely boring and not immersive.
Combat itself is boring, especially the shooting.
Bad optimization: try shoot a cannon on land and try looking into the smoke.
The one trasure quest I got was very boring, just had to find the place and chose "dig".
I can see they spent a lot of time altering the Warband engine to Sea warfare. Too bad they forgot to make a fun and interesting game in all this.
Now waiting for Bannerlord....and later the mods for it.

Agreed, if this is 70% they missed out all the good stuff, and not being able to walk around the towns and such, i feel no immersion. And the ship battles are slow and nauseating

They will add the town scenes, dude, among other things.

I have to agree about guns however. In WFAS guns had an excellent feel/punch, and while they do sound the same here however, something's missing, it's lacking that "punch"

I do hope they fix it, whatever exactly it is that's missing, hard to exactly put my finger on it, but the gun sounds feel unsatisfying.

I noticed the vast expanse of barren wilderness...
would be great to have the Portuguese on Brazil
and even  including native American tribes such as
the Arawak and Caribs...

Still time for those to hopefully be included.

I'm torn on whether or not to get it now - on one hand, I want to support development, but on the other hand I get alpha/beta fatigue really quickly.

If playing an alpha spoils the final product for you, I really do not recommend getting it, well, playing it that is, it is really quite barren at the moment, however stable.

You could always buy and not play if you want to support the development.

What's the consensus? Is it worth it at this point for an ardent MB fan, or is it not?
