Caravans bankrupt

Hi everyone. I started a new campaign in version 1.5.4 and when I had enough money I rented a caravan, but I encountered an unexpected situation. my caravan is constantly losing money and sometimes this loss reaches very high amounts.

As you can see, the daily cost of caravans is huge.

Then I noticed my caravan moving very slow on the map

The speed of movement of this caravan at night. 1.6 speed.

And this is the caravan's daytime speed. 2.2 speed.

Moreover, these are movement speeds in open terrain. Minimizes the speed of the caravan on obstacles such as forest that spread over a wide area on the map.

Then I looked at my caravan's inventory and found that the slow speed was due to the 70 pigs and some sheep in the inventory. and I bought these 70 pigs and the speed of my caravan increased to 3.8 in open terrain (this is also insufficient). oh yeah i gave 5000 dinars to 70 pigs in my caravan. Anyway, let's go back to the topic. I cannot even operate caravans, let alone trade, because of the herd penalty.
My caravans spends most of the time on the road, cannot enter cities and trade due to low speed. This causes her to constantly lose money.

My suggestion is to return the herd penalty to version 1.5.3.

Thanks for your time

That your caravan cost you daily seems to be bug. Never had that myself. Caravans being slow probably also, but that i noticed unfortunatly also in my games. They are slow moving targets for merc clans and bandits right now. Try to post this also here

I was able to run down caravans quite easily in my recent campaign with a 90 man army, something seems up with them in 1.5.4

It's the increase in the herd penalty that is doing it. People who want to play strictly as a trader are complaining about it because trading horses was one of the most lucrative ways to make a profit and up the trading skill. But the buff in the herd penalty really nerfs that playstyle. TW is probably going to have to do a 180 on that decision.

Yeah, I am taking caravans at will now from the AI. Not a well thought out adjustment.

That's a difficult one to balance. One way would be to lower the second hand value of horses. Because they turn the most profit and before 1.5.4 you could run the fastest with them. Why sell any other product with less profit and it slows you down.

There are other products that are worth trading if you know where to get them and where to sell them. But the thing with horses is the prices vary so much and you don't need a pack animal to move them so it was a no brainer and seeing as how slowly merchant goes up you need as much profit as possible to get above 200 without taking forever. TW wanted this interconnected economy but then they make changes like this and it has a ripple effect because no one actually sat down and thought through what would happen. This is building a game by the seat of the pants and hoping things turn out alright. It kind of makes you understand why development has taken so long.

My problem with caravans is that they are looted and captured every ten minutes. I don't understand why the developers don't let us interact with that caravans.

Unfortunately herd penalty formula is changed. Probably this is reason. I will check.

Seems that caravans will spawn with an equal amount of pack animals to their troop level, which is fine until they purchase livestock or horses to trade and get impacted heavily by the herd penalty. So we either need to limit how many livestock they will buy so they don't get a massive herd penalty or reduce the amount of pack animals they spawn with so they can still purchase a reasonable amount of livestock.

Affected Caravan inventory: 50 pack animals, 1 horse, 37 livestock

Affect Caravan speed: 1.9 at night, 4.2 during day

After livestock is purchased, back up to 5.5

I've seen caravans that have a speed so slow that with an army of >400 I could catch them. It makes having a caravan not even worth it because almost anyone overtake them.

maybe add simple fix:
if party.type == caravan
old herd penalty formula
else:
new caravan fomula
