As per Dev Emre, I am asking from the devs to explain exactly how captains work. Does the higher up on the list take priority? When they fall in battle, do you keep bonuses. If they fall does next person take over? As kingdom leader or army commander can we assign them since there are times that an infantry companion will assign themselves to archers, very annoying.
As you can see a lot of questions regarding them and a full explanation from the devs on exactly how captains work would be greatly appreciated.

@Flesson19 the system will change quite a bit with the introduction of the Order of Battle feature. We'll post an in-depth explanation of the new system once it becomes available.

I'm not sure how far you are into captains, but if I may offer some advice. This has been talked about on my channel and people the idea of being able to assign companions to captains in a list like we have roles(surgeon, scout..etc) That way we can assign them for our group, now when in an army we join then that list would just be invalid and the game would ignore it, only thing left is when we make an army, then we should be able to assign our companions or any party leader to a captain. It is just a suggestion. I was going to put it in that forum but since you responded to me about it I just wanted to offer an idea quite a few people really like, Not sure who is doing it if it is Dev Emre (Youtube Name). dont know his forum name, anyway thanxs for your time Dejan

@Dejan When you are in an army, any battle starts with a dialogue where you can see who are the commanders, and choose to be one if you are a member of the army.

I would like to see this dialogue in all battles(or choose to see it) and a list of what perks the selected captain provides.

got a question, it was mentioned with battle orders if a captain goes down in battle we take over that formation, does that mean when we assign ourselves to a formation, we take over a formation when a captain goes down or any unassigned formation that we are the captain and our captain perks work for them?

So we waited and it was released and no "in-depth explanation" was given as you said. The biggest things are 1) when we are leading a group, 2) and empty formation without a captain 3) anytime a captain goes down in battle and we take over, do our captain perks work in those circumstances?

There's no take over. All captains are assigned during OoB to their formations. And once they die, the formation loses all captain-specific perks. A new captain is not assigned during battle. So OoB assignments are final. So just to reiterate, whenever either a party leader/army commander/captain of a formation/sergeant as a player dies, there is no take over of the formations and party leader/army commander/captain-specific perk effects are lost immediately and no new perks get applied by some different NPC.

There are captain specific perks and party leader perks. Only the heroes assigned to a formation will give captain perks to that formation (this includes the player as well). Party leader perks are applied to all troops during battle so if player is the party leader and is not assigned to a formation, all the troops will get only the party leader perks. If the player is assigned to a formation it will give party leader perks to all troops and also captain perks to the assigned formation. There are also army commander perks that are very similar to the party leader perks but only apply when the player/hero is the army leader. Party leader and army commander perks apply to all troops and there can only be one party leader/army commander for each team.

In party battles, player is always the commander of their team so they control all formations in their team. So even if you assign a captain to a formation, it is still the player who gives orders to all the formations and captains follow (unless the player delegates command with F3+F4 or F6 on legacy).

In army battles, if player is the commander of the army the same rule applies. Though if the the player is a sergeant, they can pick a formation to lead. In this case the player can give orders to the formation it is assigned to and can't give orders to other formations.

And as an additional note, captains and party leaders are not affected by their own buffs, only their troops do. Heroes in general can, however, be affected by party leader/army commander/captain-specific perks of other heroes if they're in the same team/formation. It's just that they can't buff themselves with their own party leader/army commander/captain-specific perks, just personal perks.
