Need More Info Can't start game from steam, launcher opens then immediately closes/crashes

When running the game from Steam, the launcher opens for a brief second then closes. No crash error or anything. I have already tried reinstalling and verifying integrity.

If I run Bannerlord.exe from the steam folder the game works fine. It's just that the launcher refuses to open.

To those experiencing launcher issue,

Information those seeking solution... I was using a mod, and suspected that might've had something to do with the launcher error. If that's not what you've been doing, this solution may not work for you.
My game launched fine from the executable in the installation directory, just that the launcher wasn't launching. Icon shows in the start bar, then launcher just quits without any message.


TL;DR
Go to your Documents/Mount and Blade II Bannerlord/Configs folder, try removing LauncherConfigs.xml before attempting a launch. Make sure Modules folder in the installation directory is clean.

Deleting my LauncherConfigs.xml didn't do anything, my launcher still closes open launching the game.

I have to resort to launching the game from the .exe which is annoying because I can't select any mods.

If you tried that solution already then I apologize as I know it can get annoying if people suggest fixes that you already tried over and over again. However I saw this helping some other folks in your situation, so I guess it's worth a shot.

Set your Steam shortcut and all .exe files (including launcher) to run in administrator mode.
Right click -> properties -> compatibility -> run this program as an administrator

Got the same problem, neither the official guide nor deleting Launcher Configs did anything. I can also start the game from the exe directly, but I cannot start the launcher.

What I tried:
- deleting Launcher Configs
- verify data on steam
- reinstall
- installing these:
Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015
.net Core
.net FrameWork
Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2017
- removing \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules\SandBox\ModuleData\Languages\CN
- disable firewall and antivirus
- reinstall newest drivers

I am on Windows 10 and everything worked fine up until April 2nd. I played lots from release till then, since then the game just does not work. Please fix as this is extremely frustrating

I had this same issue and what I found is that it is something with the way the Launcher is handling things.

My fix was:
- right-click the game in your Steam Library
- click "Properties"
- go to the Local Files Tab
- click browse Local files it will pull up your file explorer.
- Open "bin"
- Open "Win64_Shipping_Client"
- Run The Application "Bannerlord"

For me this fixed it when nothing else would, it runs the game without opening the launcher which is where the issue seems to be occurring at. Hope This Helped!

I mentioned this in the OP already, I've been doing this to play. I just can't use the launcher which is annoying.

Can we please get a mod to look at this?

This would also be nice, this is a pressing issue that I can't find a solution for.

While it works it does make it impossible to play with mods sadly

How so? I did check OS, GPU drivers and Bannerlord updates. Bannerlord.exe does work, just launching from steam or from TaleWorlds.MountAndBlade.Launcher or Bannerlord.Native.exe does not. Which makes using mods impossible sadly.

I have checked my own drivers and OS and everything is up to date. So far no progress, still using Bannerlord.exe to run the game.

Regardless I wish you guys luck on trying to fix this issue.

Bannerlord.Native.exe works too now as of 1.06, launcher still doenst.

Don't know if this helps, but there is a modded launcher on nexus: https://www.nexusmods.com/mountandblade2bannerlord/mods/265?tab=files&file_id=1148
That launcher opens and can start the game with mods. So even if this doenst help with fixing the bug it is a working alternative until the launcher is fixed.
