Cant leave lost battle

So I was playing a Teutonic Order lord, and lost a battle against Novogorod. When it told me to press tab and leave, it told me I couldn't retreat because I was too close to enemies.

It's not a 1257 AD problem. It's not a Warband problem. You're just too close to enemies. When get distance try again.

Everyone was dead though, I was the last one to fall.
