Can't learn grips for smithing

I learned a lot of blueprints(?) for pommels,guards and blades but I didn't/can't learn any goddamn grip, I'm stuck with the basic wooden grip and it is really really bad. Is this a bug?

I got like 1 tier 3 blade 2 tier 2 blade and 3 tier 1 blade, 2 tier 5 pommels lots of guards but not a single grip

You are lucky then at least you have some, I'm stuck with a tier 1 and it is so embarassing, I can't forge a sword because of that

Why can't I just go to the blacksmith, customize my weapon, and pay him to forge it? Simple.
