Can't join factions because I started my own. Help?

So - I conquered Liege for the United Kingdom, but the Tyrant King George III didn't give me what was rightfully mine, so I took my land and hoped to join France. Alas, I quickly lost Liege to the Dutch. Now, I am ruler of my own Kingdom, which can't be disbanded, and because I'm ruler I can't join any of the other factions. So is there a way to join another faction, or have I worked myself into a wall?

a solution to this, could be to leave the town garisson
unguarded, and then attack a faction that you don't want to
join.
