can't get the game going

I can get to the initial screen with the purchase link and link to the site and stuff, but when I try to enter the game, the graphics are all screwy. I updated my graphics drivers, and now the first screen after that is ok(has a few glitches, but I can read the "start new game/saved game/options/exit stuff) but anything after that is totally garbled. I disabled my anti virus too.

I am running xp sp2, amd 2800+ 2 gigs of ram, fx5500.

This could be a number of things.

1. Is it only occuring with mount & blade?

If not, try re-installing the graphics driver. Probably a corrupted installation

2. Check the make and model of your monitor.
3. Check the make and model windows is trying to use (under device manager)
4. Run dxdiag and check the listed version of your graphics drivers

It does sound like a driver issue. It is probably worth completely uninstalling the graphics driver, then re-installing the latest one.

Thats what I did when I had the first problem, downloaded the newest driver, uninstalled the old one and installed the new one. In the process of which, I was prompted for my windows key(apparently I have changed my system too much) which wouldnt work because I have used it too many times(because again I have apparently changed my system too much) so I had to call microsoft to get my key to work. I hope I don't have to do all that again when I re-install the driver after work.

Alright, I have now re-installed the video drivers three more times, and the game once more as well. I made sure to have the antivirus off. Still have the exact same problem. The drivers I installed are dated 8/2/05.

Strange, nothing should pick up a system change just through a driver install. And Windows shouldn't prompt for the key no matter how much you alter the system (unless you have some strange OEM version).

Have you checked the monitor? Could be refresh rate problems

Monitor seems correct. Checked the refresh rate, and it only shows 60Hertz available for this monitor.

I did manage to get in game. Most everything seemed fine, except my head was a glob of different colors, sometimes a glob with hair. Also, anytime something with text came up, it was all illegible blocks. couldn't really do anything. Got into a combat situation once by randomly clicking text stuff (that's actually how I got in game too) but died pretty quickly  .

Hi,

This certainly looks like a driver/directX issue.
I'd recommend to get the latest version of DirectX (9c). If that still doesn't work, you could try using a different driver.

Fairly sure someone else had the same problem with that card.

Seem to remember it being down to the drivers.

Check DX version (should be 9.0c).

It might be worth rolling back the driver too. If you've been installing the Nvidia ones from the net, you should have a folder with every driver you've installed in it. Try reverting three or four drivers back and see if you still get the problem.

I have 4 drivers in my Nvidia program. The older 2 make my computer reboot when I try to play, the newer 2 give me the problem I have explained. Guess I need to find a list of old drivers to pick from.

Tried 2 more now, still no go. Though when I get in, I can hit F2 and it puts me in window mode and kinda fixes some of the problems.

Found a newer beta one now too.... but still no luck. The new one is 78.05 and was released a few days ago.

Maybe you can try some of the drivers from www.guru3d.com. Here's a link to the drivers page i think fits your system. Maybe try the 81.33 version? Not sure if it will help, but goodluck!
