Right, so I have a 1080p widescreen TV as my main monitor, and a small ****ty monitor as my secondary monitor. However, just going into the display settings and checking the box "Extend desktop to this monitor" is not having any effect.

I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing either, I've just plugged the main monitor into the slot on the graphics card, and the ****ty monitor into the motherboard(?) slot. If that is incorrect then that would explain why. A friend also said it depends on your video card, whether it is compatible or not with dual monitors.

Would probably have to have both in the gpu for it to work. I think having one in the motherboard only works as a primary and uses the gpu on the motherboard to power it.

Damn. So I need a graphics card with two ports? Strange because my friend said he just plugged his laptop into his desktop and did what I did and it worked, and his desktop and laptop suck balls (ie. have trouble running any game)

I don't run dual monitors so I can't be 100% on that.

For you to use two monitors, both must be able to physically connect to your computer. Many PCs are built on motherboards with integrated graphics and more than one monitor output; others may have a graphics card installed that has dual monitor connectors. If your computer falls into either category, you’re set

If I am reading this right though you would either have to have the monitors both plugged into the motherboard or into a gpu. I would assume having them attached to the motherboard would use its gpu which is probably very weak and only strong enough for flash games.

Depends on what you're trying to do. If you want a single display across two monitors then you need them both plugged in to the same output. If you want to use two displays with one on each monitor, then you plug them in separately.

No, you just need a cable splitter.

Your friend is quite probably retarded.
