:mad: I recently picked up mount and blade from 2 years of not playing, got some new mods- roots of Yggdrassil is good- but i downloaded a few others and it says "windows cannot find anything that can read this" so i went to a program i recently used before- WinZip- and it doesnt work anymore. Does anyone know a good FREE file extractor?

Thanks
Beowulfdude

P.S. i have vista

Go to CNet (download.com) and get WinRar. That should be the same program from the Rarlab site... but download from there to make sure you get the latest version. It opens all compiled file types (like .zip, .rar, etc). Some mods use installers which should require just a double click then pointing to the directory path. If you can't get it to work, then it's user error. :wink:

Rarlab.com is the main site for Winrar so i believe it would be best to get it from there.

Here are other programs beowulf dude;

But if you are getting errors prorobably something is wrong with the download.

7 zip is my preferred archive manager, free for personal use. May want to try it. http://www.7-zip.org/

Seeing as the Rarlab has a hundred different versions of the program in different releases and in different languages it might confuse him and he'll install the wrong thing. Which if he downloaded from that site and tried using it and it still wont unzip his mods... that's what happened.

Very first search result on CNET for "Winrar" is the latest build for English speaking users. The second, German. You can't confuse that in the slightest bit. Download there, install... go unzip. I'd think it's much easier to do than sift through the download page at Rarlab.

Okay then, you download from google, i will go download from the main sites.

I didn't say Google... I said CNET which is fairly reputable and safe downloading site. Most publishers post their programs to that site and update it constantly. You're free to do what you like, but in this particular case I think it's better for this person so he doesn't choose the wrong download.

7zip or winrar are your best options.

Also, if you are running Vista, make sure you run Winrar/winzip as an administrator (right click -> open as admin). Thats if you are extracting straight to the module folder. Although it is safer to extract it elsewhere and then copy+paste (this does not require you to open winrar/7zip as admin), because some mods might come with a readme file or something.
