Hello,
I've been enjoying M&B for about a month now since I received the full version from Steam. Had to put it down for a few weeks then resumed my profile. However, the last couple of days I realised something was amiss. It took a little time, as each item came up slowly. I run WinVista HP 32-bit on a 2.4 Ghz dual-core, 2 MB ram, NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS vid card. Before this last session, I had NO problems running the game.
Can't collect taxes: As a quest, I can no longer collect the taxes at a village. I go there (train the villagers vs. bandits for good pts first), start to collect taxes, but nothing comes. I've waited 8 days and still nothing. I've never had an issue with this before and usually finish collecting over two days or so. THIS WORKED BEFORE.
Can't loot enemy villages: Similarly, I cannot loot a village. I got there, select the looting process but nothing happens. The info box for the village says it's being raided, but nothing happens. Game goes to PAUSE and the game essentially stops. I thought it was because of the Looting factor, but even when I trained myself and several NPC's for looting, the best I got was irate villagers which we had to slaughter (which I didn't have before), but then nothing. I was at war with the nation in question. THIS WORKED BEFORE.
Waiting for the spy: King Graveth gave me the quest to wait for an informant and follow the spy. Said to wait "here". (where in 'here' anyway? the castle, the village centre, the town when viewing campaign map?). NOTHING happened. Waited for almost two weeks, paying for rent and retainers.
Not eating: OK, I know it's one less thing to worry about, but it's an interesting facet of the management. My party consumes nothing! The food is untouched for weeks. THIS WORKED BEFORE.
No sieges: No matter where a siege is, I can't join in. I used to be able to attack or defend a castle. Now, it says castles are under siege, but when I go there, instead of being asked to join, I just get the usual character interaction screen where I can ask for quests or info. THIS WORKED BEFORE.
For the record, here are some character stats (no giggling please, still a noob!): 216 days; 244 Renown; 1037 Honour; vassal of Graveth; Level 17; Looting 2; Leadership 2; Inventory Manag 0; Tactics 1; Engineering 1
So, to reiterate all of the above examples (except spy quest) worked before. Now, when I got back home after five weeks and started playing again, I noticed Steam updated M&B, but the version # was the same. I've loaded older iterations of the same character and at least the food consumption works. Not sure about the rest. It sounds like a messed up counter or something. Anyone have any ideas? I figure I'm going to have to start over again, but I'll quickly lose interest if this happens again. What's the point otherwise. I'd appreciate any and all help. Thanks.
