Hi
Is there a way to attach flames to an object, such as a sword or arrow?
I am completely new to MB modding and have alot of tutorials to start reading.
Is it possible to remove a weapon and have it seem that the person is shooting a crossbow bolt without a crossbow? Just answer yes or no.
My overall question is can a character shoot a flaming arrow w/out a weapon visible to make it seem like he is firing a ball of fire?

no flames to an itim, other than ranged while firing, no burning arrows
crossbow: yes you can "moddel" nothing and import it into BRFEditor, but because you can't have fire arrows that's senseless (the much easier way would be to use a stone that looks a little bit like fire and throw him)

You sure? I think particle effects can do a lot these days, it was what I was depending on for the myth mod, take a look at H&B, there's a mummy in there that has glowing purple hands and he smacks you with them. of course..it may just be the "gloves" its wearing, but it used an invisible shield and sword.

you can do an "on weapon attack effect" but I don't know how to do that in python, that doesn't mean you have burning arrows.

you can attach a particle emitter to... pretty much any entity (I guess anything without skeletal animation). But when done on equipment, they will start emitting when equiped in inventory, and I doubt there is yet a way to have constant emitter only when the weapon is in players hands, but the particle emitter can be set to shoot once when the equipment is used (swung, fired...).

And afaik some one managed to attach an emitter on an arrow... or spent time to make a particle script to have a fireball travel with arrow...

Like said before, the Hero&Blade mod has mummies with particles emitting from their hands. You should ask Cartread. I think flaming swords might be possible.

eh... yes... the particle system allows that... it is allowed since flintlock exists but since there are only check intervals (OnInitItem and OnWeaponAttack) there are only two uses for it, a brust of flame when weapon is used or it on gloves (or on swords which will keep burning even if they are not on players hands).

Are you saying the particles would keep emitting from the player after they changed weapon in battle?

I see. So it only really works for enemies that only have one weapon. Unless they're stupid and switch to fists.

Well, the units I need for my mod usually throw a couple of flaming rocks, and then bash them with a flaming sword/invisible sword. So are flaming projectiles possible or not? Can I get a fire particle effect on some throwing rocks? and actually have it trial the path of the rock?

Once it is a projectile I guess it is not possible have it keep the triggers and I'm clueless how to attach an emitter to a projectile. However you can make such a particle effect that mimics the projectile, however it will go on and on and on... I guess a the visually best way to use them now is to have "spells" with invisible projectiles but have a "fire brust" ala pistol.

Flaming swords are a retarded idea.

Flaming arrows are a good idea. Combustibility of grasses and statics would be excellent.

Jeeeez..

ey! the guy making Brother VS Brothermod used cannons, with couldrons as cannonball! =P hE chanced to STONE model by a couldron methinks
some ppl vv been talking about using a torch as projectile but I thought the torhses onley light in scenes where its night? This aint so bad >.> Why would you enlight a river pirate during the day? naaaaah... But I thought theeere was anotherrr reason. Ubnable to recount it.. =)

Seeervitor!

This is my blade of fire code.YOu can arrange the position of the flame.

What he said.

And also, if I model/skin a ball of molten rock, and give it the throwing axe animation, will it spin around in mid air? Can i attach a fire particle system to it? Will the particle system also spin around? Is it possible for it to trail behind the spinning ball?

I personally think that both are retarted for native, or any historical mod, but there are a few fantasy-themed mods that would apprecaite particle effects on weapons.

Hmmm.... What is the tip for a sword(?,?,?) and for an arrow(?,?,?) 100,100,100 is to the right and up above them, it is funny...!
