Can you add a bowstring noise, please?

If you ever get a chance, do you think you could look up a good sound effect for drawing a bow that lasts exactly as long as it takes for the reticule to reach its apex? I'm just asking because I'd like to play without a reticule (for immersion's sake) and it would actually work if there were some kind of animation or sound cue that let me know when I am ready to let loose the arrow. I have been able to do this with crossbow somewhat effectively, but the bow is real hard.

Although I prefer the reticule on, I would like a sound for drawing bows. M&B is a bit weak in sound department.

Yes, I suppose it would also sound really cool if you had a whole bunch of archers and you could hear the twang of their bows and the zing of their arrows all around you as they fired.

By the way, in case it isn't obvious, you should only hear the bowstring draw sound of your own bow.

Why's that? You should be able to hear it from other bowmen near you.

A substantial grunt wouldn't be out of place either.

Medieval war bows could be taller than a man with up to and over 100 pounds draw weight. Without doubt that firing such monsters many times a minute in battle demanded enormous exertion.

I'm in. I agree, the sounds for M&B are possibly the weakest aspect. Any more realistic sounds would be wonderful, especially yells, grunts, and cries.

It would be out of place if that sound effect was used for every bow. The average medieval bow, as I understand it, would have been smaller and lighter in draw weight. Perhaps for the war and long bows.

I was thinking that particular sound wouldn't be loud enough, I guess. Bows don't make an especially loud drawing noise. Of course, I haven't ever drawn a medieval bow either. :?:

Yeah, M&B's sounds are a bit lacking, but what can you do? Ever since playing Morrowind with the "Atmospheric Sound Effects" I can't even play it again or even watch a friend play it without that mod. Having tons and tons of environmental sounds goes a long way in making an RPG come alive. Some of my favorite sounds clips were things like these:

  • Laughter and banter in a tavern, with shouts like, "more wine!"
  • Town sounds like shutters and doors opening and closing, cats screeching, dogs barking, etc.
  • Bands playing medieval music in taverns
  • High quality rain and thunder sound effects, which would also be in effect (but muffled) whenever you walked indoors.
  • Etc.

If armagan ever had the opportunity to get a sound engineer, it would be sweet. Heck, the sounds from the Morrowind mod could be used, since it's all open content. Although, I doubt anyone designing a retail game would be content with borrowing from someone else's work. I really don't know where game makers get their material. I suppose the expensive games do it similarly to the movies. I'd love to be a video game sound engineer, myself. It must be hard being an indy developer when the expectations of game quality are so damn high these days.
