when sheild wall works (when i have all sheild inf) then it does mean i hve less casualties form archers but yes i agree soem of them i just avoidthe formations in general dont seem to work very well - i dont bother with them

yeah and even if you give the charge command they stay holding there shields up unless told to go back to line formation charge should set it to defualtDont you find men in a sheild wall get eaten up by attacking infantry? Annoyingly as a sheild wall should be THE formation for a face to face infantry fight.
I also find men just dont want to go into a fomration at times - like telling ym archers to scatter, they just stand still. Also often when telling tropps to go to square or circle they just ignore me
ive heard rumours (not been able to test fully my self) that its to do with if its night time they have a shorter distacne of fire but the ingame clock and the way time is displayed on the battlefield are out of sink (so a battle that looks like its early morning could be at night still)not strickly a formation issue but the range at which archers decide they will fire seems extreamly random as well. At times they are so far away they are clearly outside the weapons range - other times the enemy are almost in their face before they shoot :/

yeah but I mean they are things that can (and likely) will be fixed and at least there are actual formations in the game alradey instaed of stand closer or futher apartlk right throug
