Can I never play Captain Team Deathmatch?

This is ruining the multiplayer experience for me. And that's not hyperbole - I want to make that clear, right away. It litterally is ruining the game experience for me.

The multiplayer gamemode I was looking the most forward to, was beyond question "Captain Team Deathmatch". And having played it, I found I really enjoyed it.

That is; I probably would have enjoyed it, if it would work right.

I'm experiencing a problem that is causing my character to react to my button-presses way too slowly. At first I thought this was only when attacking, (I'd press-and-hold the button to "wind up" the attack as usual, but once I let go, there would be a significant delay before my character would actually swing his weapon.), but then I found that this also applied to blocking/parrying. (Strangely, though, movement seemed unaffected.) Also, there were times when it looked like the game didn't recognise it when I struck an enemy.

When I asked on this forum, one of the users said that this was due to connection issues - a strange kind of lag, apparently, that would mostly kick in when I was fighting in hand-to-hand combat - the worst possible time for there to be any sort of lag, whatsoever. Absolutely unacceptable. *Facepalm*. And to avoid this, I should only visit servers with a Ping count no higher than 100.

The problem here is that as of right now, there is not a single Captain Team Deathmatch-server out there with a ping lower than 100. Most of them are way over. What can I do about this, if anything? I really don't know much about this stuff, but what exactly is it that causes ping to be high? Geographical location? Player count? And is there anything I can do?

So... yeah. Please reply. I was really looking forward to this mode, but now this strange kind of lag -type thing I'm experiencing just makes the whole thing painful. I see many servers for other gamemodes, and many of them have much lower ping. What is the difference between them and the (few) Captain Team Deathmatch -servers?

To put it very simply, it's the speed at which your computer sends packets of information to the server. If you live further away from the server then your ping will be higher.

I'm sure more servers will pop up over time, the game has only been out for a day on Steam.
