Businesses?

From looking at this board I just found out you can build businesses that produce items for the cities and give you money... so I'd like to learn more about these "businesses". Such as, do they get imported for more revenue, how to build one, general statistics and what goes one with these things. Also, what determines the output of villages and castles? As mine seem to fluctuate from time to time. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Also, do villages with standing towards you below 0 not allow recruiting?
 
There are plenty of threads about businesses if you would just search for this, but I'll answer your questions regardless.

The amount of money you make from a business is pretty simple, its value of produce -source materials and labour.  When you ask about setting a business up the guild master will tell you how much profit to expect.  Generally the more expensive commodities make you more money (Velvet, Oil, Tools) but to maximise your income you want a business in a place where source materials are cheap and produce is expensive.  To go beyond the profits projected you can either buy materials somewhere cheap and store them in your business, or tell the business to store its output so you can sell it in another city where its worth more.

Castle income is always the same as its joined fief, regardless of whether you own that fief or not.  If you own a castle and its village, you will gain the same income from each.  All towns and villages have fluctuating economies, based on the frequency of bandit attacks (on village and villagers), how much produce they have stockpiled, and how recently they were looted.  A looted village will not generate income for the week it was attacked.

And yes, villages with negative standing will not allow recruitment.
