Hi

I got a cd image of an operating system and need to burn it, but theres no cd's around, can i burn it on a DVD instead, will it work in the same manner as a cd, id also need some other random backup stuff on the disc, so is it possible to burn cd iso on a DVD and then somehow also get in the separate files i have that arent an image?

The iso should burn fine (they use the same data format). The problem is adding the extra stuff - not 100% sure it would allow you to append the disc once it was burned (unless it's rewritable).

Mind you, if you're using Alcohol 120% or Nero you can add the files to the disk image. Just unpack the iso to somewhere on your system, stick the files in a subdirectory within the extracted image then repack it to iso. Shouldn't cause a problem.

Thanks for the replies, i tried burning it on dvd and added the files i need as backup, the dvd worked fine except for some reason it didnt want to boot. Oh well, maybe its easier to just go buy some cd-r discs

While we are on the subject, does anyone know a good programme that allows you to burn original disks into an ISO image format? Since I feel quite strongly against piracy, obviously all my disks are original. Now after trying to burn an image of them onto my portable drive (no I'm not in a mood to hog around 10kg worth of disks when I move to another country for a few years again) half of them refuse to burn due to "copyright", while some would give me a copyright error when I try to launch the application from the virtual drive.

Bit off-subject, but this really pisses me off. I payed for official, legal original copies and now I either have to turn to pirates to try and get a crack for my original software (which I refuse to do), hog around 200CD's with me while I travel all over the place - half of which I'm quite sure wouldn't survive the journey and I would end up loosing the whole disk which I can't back-up (which once again is out-of-question), or I'm just unable to use the stuff I bought at all (seems to be the only option at the moment). All this, while the people who DO screw the developers over and buy pirated copies, have no problems whatsoever as their disks are copy-friendly, back-up friendly, and come with pre-setup cracks in them.

Archon, Janus, LL, heck all you guys know me well enough (I hope) to know I hate piracy myself and don't support it. But as of now, I'm pretty much at a loss of how to get my original software that I payed for to work for me.. Since most of us here (I hope again) dislike piracy just as much, can anyone give me a nice solution as to how to solve this problem? ::\

Aye, that's a huge problem with all music/games/movies etc. today.
They make ****loads of laws and protections that people using wares couldn't care less about or even be hindered by while ruining it for people legally buying the things.

In Finland, it's illegal for me to rip a cd and put the music from it on my mp3 player, go Karpela go!
