bunny hopping to avoid missiles?

Someone brought this up as a tactic in a recent discussion.

... tried doing that in the arena when it's down to the archer and you?
jumping seems to slow me down and puts my target painted scalp in line with the arrows that might otherwise fly overhead.

Even worse when you are wield a two-handed sword or a lance and there's half a field between you. Even if you eventually close that distance - most of the time i don't - if i do i look like a target dummy robin hood's been using, or my shield is shattered.

And when I am in his face, somehow the archer is able to loose off arrows at point blank while i swing at him. Probably a champion with a good athletics score 'cause he's running circles around me.

Of course, some how these scenarios only happen when i finally decide to bet 200 denairs on myself... the crook of a tournament master pairs me up with an archer who shoots me instead while trying to hit the archer I have trying to hack; and ignores the charging knight who promptly lances his boils...

It has been my experience that jumping doesn't help against archers. Actually, they tend to headshot you more if you jump. You really need a high athletics to dodge arrows though. All you do, is sidestep one direction, then change directions the instant he fires. It will miss every time if done correctly. Also, there is a bug in the arena where enemy archers will do this little sidestep circular teleport backwards thing sometimes...it needs fixing bad.

Me too. I think this jump suggestion is for the birds. Zigging is the way to go. High athletics REALLY helps in that tourney armor.

Bunny hopping works quite well for me.

I'm now trying a character with high agility, 1 handed weapon + low encumbrance - I'm using a nomad sabre + leather vest, cap, hunter's boots - and I managed to run/jump fast enough to reach x-bowmen in time. If they are bunched up, I can even manage to kill the whole bunch by running around the edges, jumping and slashing.

Arena heroes are a complete pain due to high athletics. Closing to melee from medium to long distance, I find jumping helps a lot to throw off their aim.

At near point bank, sometimes running straight to contact ASAP is the best as even zigzagging is impossible to dodge.

Decnt athletics of 3 or more is absolutely necessarily or even regular champion fighters can dance circles around you. Still, until you have athletics of 6 or more, you can still regularly kiss your 200 denars goodbye when you are 2Her against a hero foot archer.

i think the arena was attempted to be rigged.

when i bet nothing its always me and another dude on a horse vs 2 people on foot. 50 is usually the same, 100 is me on the ground and my guy on the horse...

i think iv had ONE 200 bet arena match where i had a horse, the rest is me with a sword and a shield vs an archer and a lancer.

damn cheaters :p
