[Bug?] Sieges Take too Much Time

About five Swadian lords are laying siege to Tulga, which is the last place held by the Khergits.

They have been for around a month by now.

Do sieges by the AI usually take this long? It's getting very annoying seeing them just sitting there. I tried to siege it myself by going to the town, but I can't find the option to siege it myself.

Is this a bug or something?

how many men do they have, vs how many are in tulga (garrison plus lord parties)
Also given that the towns and castles right now are full of elite troops, they may not think they can win.

Visit tulga and see what the food supply is (it should be going down- if it's been a month, it should be down to 60 days.) I honestly have no idea what happens when the food supply runs out.

That said, there was a variable added "Hours since last decisive event" which is supposed to be used to end wars that have gone on and on with nothing happening.

when food supplies ended in 1.011 native, you could ask them to surrender, they will if you had a big force

They'll do that anyway... you dont have to cut off their food supply. If you greatly outnumber them they will consider surrender.

when food start running out the defenders will have a good chance of losing some men every 24 hours and marked as wounded. it`s how it works in 1.010 according to the script and I tested it so yes..
it`s that 90 days is way unreasonable at least for player due to food and boredoom...

even though it's realistic in real life time, 30-90 days is way too long to siegelock a place when you could just wear them down, get more men, wear them down some more, etc and still do it faster.

There is supposed to be variety in sieges. Major AI-led sieges will usually lead to a direct assault, while minor AI-led sieges will attempt to starve the place out. The player is not really supposed to participate in the long sieges -- they're just a feature of the strategic landscape, as it were.

If the besiegers are part of the same faction, you should be able to approach the siege leader and suggest leading an assault.

If this isn't intuitive, I can include a "hint" dialog somewhere.

It seems though, that if a long term siege ends, the food supply increases too quickly too easily. Players in particular can't do this because if they try laying siege for a few days, something might happen to pull them away, and when they come back, the food stores will be back to maximum again. Also the AI's own strategic thinking would seem to get in the way of such a long term siege.

I would suggest adding more info pages to the new tab in the quest screen- flesh it out to be sort of like the Civilizopedia in civilization and include information on a lot more of the game mechanics. I did find the option to suggest an assault, but one time I remember talking to the only lord siege-ing a castle and apparently he wasn't the one leading the siege or something because the option wasn't there.

I agree that AI sieges can be very frustrating to wait out.. especially in the situation where your enemy only has one castle left and you want to be the one to heroically take it out on your own but one of the other factions are besieging it in a long term or short term manor (Sometimes this lasts up to 2 in game weeks for various reasons, some being the lords besieging get dragged away by other battles or the siege stops but you're nowhere near the castle because you're tending to other things and when you get back they're besieging it again!).

There is little to do to speed up this situation other than attacking the nation that is besieging your enemy which isn't always desirable. So I think you should be able to talk to the commander leading the siege and have options to take of the siege. Some quick ideas:
1. Offer a bribe to the lord leading the siege to stop besieging  this castle or give you control of the siege
2. Use your persuasive skill to persuade the lord into letting you take over the siege (I would like to see some more uses of the persuasion skill)
3. Use your friendship to do the same as above

pretty much similar ideas as to getting a lord to pay a loan back.. could possibly be implemented to all AI sieges, Im sure some lords would be vulnerable to corruption with the new political system.

After a period of time you're supposed to be able to ask whoever is leading the siege to start an assault. But even when I see the option, it doesn't always work (sometimes, but not always). I've yet to determine if its a bug or if they got distracted or something.

There's another thing about sieges that irritates me, and that is the fact that the moment you leave the screen for the siege, you have to build the equipment again.

Sometimes after building the equipment I want to change which troops in my party come first. I have to exit the screen to get to the party screen, and when I'm done, I have to build the siege equipment all over again!

This makes no sense, as the game is paused while the player party is not moving, so how did they have enough time to take it all down?

Ahh yeah that is annoying, not just in sieges but its a general nuisance as well (Not being able to upgrade troops while sleeping in a city/castle etc.) But you're right for sieges its just down right silly.

Also may i suggest that we should be able to leave our sieges being built (For a very short amount of time) and then we get a message saying: "A war party trashed your siege equipment at *"Blah blah"* and it now needs rebuilding" - Alright so that idea isn't the greatest or most useful thing to focus on here so jst ignore it unless you think its an actual good idea then go hard.

Mmm anddddddddddddd My brainnnnnn AH nevermind i forgot.. these idea are probably better for the privy council anyways
But first the problem should be dealt with that AI sieges take much too long and there doesn't appear to be a whole lot we, as the player, can do about it
