Bugs and known issues

And once again I present you with a special topic for bug reports on both the Basic and the Expanded version of 2.4. Please specify in your post if you use the Basic or Expanded version and whether you used the full download or a patch.

Before you post, you'd better read the FAQ, because sometimes the errors you get can be solved by solutions posted over there. Furthermore, if you're having trouble, you can also ask for help at support.

General information:
Current version: 2.4
Next version: 2.5

I had originally planned a lot more sounds than are in the pack currently, but was forced by an error occuring on some computers to release it as an optional addon. The error I'm talking about is 'RGL shaders: out of video memory', or something similar, which occurs just before the loading of the game when you start up: a crash to desktop follows. If you despite our best efforts to downgrade the amount of sounds still experience  this erorr, you might want to try one of the hotfixes I offer here:
Hotfix A: this is the sounds.txt from 2.3 plus some extra voices during encounters.
HotfixB: this is basically the sounds.txt from 2.3, altough some sounds are changed to better reflect 2.4.
In both hotfixes you'll find a sound.txt and a module_sounds.py. You'll only need to replace the sounds.txt in the main mod folder: the other file is only of interest for modders.
You only need to download one of these hotfixes if you get the 'RGL shaders: out of video memory' error when starting 2.4.

If you are receiving script errors, items or scene problems, odd AI behavior, wrong dialog text, etc, etc...this is the place you want to be.



Known Cause of Crash in Battle, v2.4+
Thanks to Fattyfat, we now know that the horse "Black Charger" causes crashes on many people's systems. If you begin experiencing crashes in battle when things were stable before, be sure neither your character nor your companions are using a "Black Charger" of any sort.

This problem, from every test I can do, seems confined to Basic (please let me know if this is wrong). There are two possible solutions:
[+]Use the sounds.txt file from Native (copy paste it into the folder you installed Basic into)...this removes any sound mods, but takes away the UFO
[+]Use the sounds.txt file from this MediaFire Download...this keeps the modified sounds, but removes the UFO. Win-win. (Includes a smaller "Sounds Hotfix B" equivalent, too, within a folder, if you have memory limitations.)

I've tested it and it works, reverting dust back to Native, but maintaining the new village fires, etc.

I'm getting the error: "Error on Creating Shaders: Out of Video Memory" when starting the game. Never got this message with any other mod. My specs: e6600 Dual Core CPU 2.6 Ghz, 2GB RAM, Ati Radeon HD3780.

That's an error I wish I would get when Floris crashes on me. At least I'd know it was the video memory that's running out.

Should look in the FAQ in the game crashes section. making sure you have load textures on demand and such suggestions in there
 
@Veagoure: Hmmm, you might try getting the latest version of directx then, or it could just be running out of memory but worth a try. Same would go for the other person, and myself as well. Updating drivers can sometimes fix these things.
 
Strange but true: that shader error is caused by sounds.txt :sad:. When you use the old one from 2.3 it shouldn't occur.

I have already lowered the amount of sounds drasticly according to what was planned. Really unfortunately that it still doesn't work for you.
 
My party was in a town before updating. After update, when I try to leave the town I get stuck on what appears to be a overview of towns with banks, and load/deposit info.

When I click return to menu, nothing happens.

edit: and worse yet, it auto saved. So now I can't export my char to a new save can I?
 
Savegame from 2.3 (from 2.1) is not going well at all with the Expanded Pack.  Unable to use the soundpack but dropped back to the 2.3 version and that solved the no load problem.

CTD every 4-5 minutes.  Very frustrating to report as there is no repeating event or action on part which causes it which might indicate why.  Just happens while moving on map.

When asking a location of a person the buttons have text indicating the relationship level with the player.

My guess is that there are some serious indexing issues with the savegame file - obviously your testers would have spotted these problems immediately.

Sure like all the additional features I am able to see before the next CTD.  :sad:  Will put play on hold while I experiment later this weekend to see if I can narrow down the source of the problems.

I was able to play a save from 2.3 without an issue, but had no 2.1 save to test. Definitely might be oddities there as there already were some oddities trying to use 2.1 saves with 2.3, unfortunately.

What kind of crash to desktop? The screen freezes? You get a warband.exe has stopped responding? Or an RGL error?
Does this happen with a new game, too, or just your 2.1 save?

Both of these are as designed. The first as an additional ease-of-use feature, the second is part of the extended vassal titles system where the titles also indicate prestige of the individual.

When do you get them? Have you run previous versions of Floris successfully?
And for RGL errors, after the crash, go into your Warband installation directory and find the file "rgl_log.txt" and open it and copy everything, then paste it all here, within a [.code] [./code] block (the # button that says "Insert Code" when you write a new post).

i get the errors at random times, somtimes when i exit a town, somtime on the world map and when i enter the marketplace.

For people that still experience the 'RGL shaders: out of video memory'  error I made two possible hotfixes, which you can find in the first post of the topic. You only need to download one of these fixes if you can't start a 2.4 game due to that 'RGL shaders: out of video memory' error.
 
@Skorpa, do you have Steam? (Town related runtime errors tend to be Steam achievement-driven. Disable achievements by going into your "Config" menu before the game starts and enabling cheats.)

Also, the rgl_log.txt that you posted appears to be one of a successful load, run and quit. The log is re-written everytime you run the game...so one after you experience a RGL Error is what we're interested in.
 
I'm using expanded 2.4 patched from expanded 2.3. Bandit camps are bringing up the same text as when you encounter a group of bandits and the battle is on a regular battlefield rather than in a camp. After you finish the battle the camp doesn't disappear.

Looks like Caba`drin was right, it works fine with a new character. It was about time I started again anyway. Thanks for the quick response.

There's no coding error here. Might be a save-game compatibility problem we didn't run into.
