bug in 704: "RGL ERROR"

I just upgraded to v 0.704, and as I start the program, I click on "Play Mount & Blade" in the menu, and then a few seconds later, the screen goes white. In another window, there is an error message "Unable to open file storm1.dds." How do I fix this?

Reinstall the game. It may work.

Welcome to the forum, Majour333.

As Keeper said ... you might want to uninstall M&B (make sure to delete the mount&blade folder after the uninstall) and then do a full, fresh install of 0.704.

I had the same 'RGL ERROR' bug after upgrading from 0.632 to 0.704. Deleting and installing straight to 0.704 worked (don't know if patching a newly-installed older version would've worked).

Interestingly enough, after the uninstall, I had to log off and back on before deleting the old Mount&Blade folder, because something still claimed to have it in use. No idea what.

I have attempted to upgrade from .632 to .704 including uninstalling then re-installing still the same RGL error - unable to open file storm1.dds

Are you downloading the full install of 7.04?

If your using XP, make sure the game is being run from an account with admin privileges the first time, otherwise it has problems (once its been run once it should be fine from any account).

If your not already installing to the default folder, it may be worth re-installing to there. Otherwise, check the file exists. Should be in the textures folder within the M&B directory. Check it isn't set to read only or hidden.

Had the same error, unistalled as suggested. What really sucks, is all saved games are gone! Nothing worse than starting over when alot of time and energy spent building up a char. I did save a copy of saved game folder, but does not come up in menu, ansd I did put it back in the main folder.
I just hope now that I don't get so frustrated starting all over. This is kind of lame!

Now to top it all off, when quiting game to desktop, it makes computer restart. I have been playing this since the first install came out, and all I can say now is this is very disheartening! Any way to recover the status I was at before this "beta"?

Hogwildz,

The game crashing to desktop is a known problem that several users have. I'm sure that Armagan has that on his to-do list.

I would suggest using the in-game cheats to get a character to a comparable level and financial state ...

i have had the same problem i found that if i go to the textures file and then change the files in there such as for example the storm.dds cant be opened it is because it is a jpg just change the file types to .dds should fix the problem
you have to do this for all the jpgs in the file except the ones which have .dds and a jpg file there are some im not willing to try anything too major
incedentially i think the problem was that the update does not contain all the .dds files that are required to run the game they are for some reason .jpg files i have no idea why but they work if you change them. also i lost my save files all of them i saw that some other people had the same problem maybe the file type changed im not sure, and im not going to check.
