Bug: allies won't follow me in combat

Greetings!


Encountered an awful bug today; I was named marshall, and called for the noblemen of the realm. They assembled, and I lead them into battle. They were quite close to me (close enough to join) and yet, no one followed me into the melee - I had no "Lord so-and-so joined you into battle" message, and their troops were nowhere to be seen.

I logged on another save (I was not marshall on this one), asked for a noble ally to follow me, and attacked enemy troops; my ally didn't follow me into battle either.

Needless to say, this is quite the game-breaking bug, and I'm quite disheartened. Anyone encountered it?

edit: I am using the Diplomacy mod.

Sometimes my allies follow me, and sometimes they don't, I think it has to do with their assessment of how the fight will turn out.
