Buffing Knight Order units, the Pendor troop tree, and uniqueness worries

I'm about to get my first Order going in my first castle once I can beat up some more lords and release them for honour, and I know that when you drop the 10k or whatever sum of gold on improving your honour units ALL instances of that unit get buffed, including those of other lords, so I wanted to make sure - does anyone else recruit from the Pendor troop tree? I don't remember ever seeing any Pendor troops running around in any fights so far. So getting and upping Silvermist Rangers should be safe from the worry of running into a stack of uberarchers, right?

On a somewhat related note, where do you actually recruit the troops to upgrade along the Pendor path? I've got one castle and fief, declared myself neo-Pendor and everything, but the village is still giving Ravenstern recruits. Is saving farmers and refugees from bandits really the only way to get them?

Im also going the old Pendor way.
My villages (former Ravenstern) sometimes give me pendor recruits or even bowmen.
But yes, farmes and refugees are the main 'ressource' it seems.

cheers

Speak of the devil, one just popped up in Balanli, hoorj!

It's half and half. I've read somewhere that when you choose Pendor, the recruits your fiefs will give you will be 50% Pendor and 50% the Empire/Sarleon/Ravenstern, etc....

More detail on that: Villages give 50% of the time their native culture, and 50% of the time the culture of the Lord who owns them.  So if Ravenstern takes a village from the D'Shar, then it will be half Ravenstern troops and half D'Shar.  Obviously, as stated above, if you choose Pendor, that increases your options for getting Pendor troops, but it isn't a guarantee recruitment-wise.

Just to confirm: I've checked the army compositions and as far as I can see, no Pendor troops are used by any army, unique or otherwise.  This is not true of ALL the Knighthood Orders however.  So be cautious with that, but Silvermist Rangers shouldn't be an issue unless you get defeated while you have some in your army.

Then some may be taken prisoner and later freed by another force.  Other than that rarity, I don't think you have to worry about them at all.

Possible issues for you to consider:

1) Another order for the same Honor troops exist somewhere else and are under the control of an enemy.  This is an issue as Chapter Houses at castles and towns upon occasion produce their own Honor troops.

2) The honor troops are part of a Unique Spawn.. such as the Ravenspear Knights and Boris the Raven... if you improve these knights, you also improve the knights of this spawn..

While I've yet to see Silvermist or Dawn etc. in an army.... I HAVE seen Pendor recruits, militia and bowmen roaming around with other armies.  So the Pendor lines are not exclusive.  They're just rare.

The biggest worry is stuff like Saxon said, the things like Shadow Centurions and Raven Knights that will try harder to kick your ass if you upgrade them.

hope that helps!

Well, the AI does occasionally pick up farmers, refugees, and peasant women. And if they survive long enough, they will be updated by the XP the AI gets. But I haven´t seen more than low tier Pendorian troops yet, and high end AI female troops usually come from defeated caravan´s rescued off evildoers.

I've actually had a couple of sieges in version 2.0 where there were 2-3 knights of the ebon hand or whatever the pendor foot knight order is on the Sarleon vassal that was sitting in the castle.
