I have never play WB, so I dono how it is there, but in BL heroes are dumb. They have 0 sense to escape, attack, let alone tactical moves. I have made 1 of my brother to have war god stats, but how does he perform in battle? Pretty much he did the same as heroes with 100 combat skills. Most of the time he just rode his horse in circle, spending most of his time strolling, and once in a while swinging his mighty weapon at the enemy and misses.
My suggestion is, can we have separate AI for the heroes, since TW is worry about the performance of having all units AI to be buffed. At least buff the heroes AI, so that they are aggressive when it's necessary, and knows how to run when it's danger.
