Check it out.
Could this herald in a whole range of new treatments for things perviously thought un-curable such as HIV/AIDS and Flu? Is it just a fascinating piece of biological information that has actually been happening for a long time and we've only just discovered?
My personal view is erring towards the latter - by what I saw on the news this isn't caused by any artificial or manufactured substances, merely our own anti-bodies and the TRIM21 protein produced. Perhaps whilst it is useful we can do this ourselves (i.e without the aid of any chemotherapy or treatments) it simply doesn't happen fast enough or at a large enough scale to prove a reliable defence against viruses that get inside our cells.
It does at any rate open up new ways of thinking for scientists to explore, perhaps developing a way to boost the production of these anti-bodies and the TRIM21 to aid the naturally occuring ones found in our body. Maybe even a way to engineer artificial TRIM21 that could work outside a cell, maybe working with white blood cells to act as the disposal in place of the mechanism found inside our cells. The scientists seem to think this is a definite route to explore:
It's interesting anyway, feel free to discuss.

The MRC scientists have further shown that increasing the amount of TRIM21 protein in cells makes this process even more effective, suggesting new ways of making better antiviral drugs.
Dr James added: “We could also supercharge the antibodies by attaching the protein to them so it can be delivered in one shot.”
It's interesting anyway, feel free to discuss.
