Sergeant at Arms
Hi.

It's hard not to make this sound like a moan, and it probably will, but it's not really meant as such. So anyway:

I've been playing on the multiplayer servers and many times it's been good fun, notably on battle mode, or a siege server with only 20 or so people on. But it seems that on the highly populated siege server(s), things just aren't so much fun because people aren't co-operating or are just not thinking. It seems to be treated just like a team-deathmatch, with silly people wasting all their bullets firing at the walls from outside (and dying more frequently than the enemy, as you'd expect if you think about it even a little), while the people who try and complete the objective just repeat the process of spawn, run, go through breach, die, because it's about 3 against 20. A lot of times, the clock will just run down until the defenders win, though sometimes the defenders likewise forget about the objective and let a group of attackers take down the flag while running the other way, trying to get an easy kill. Basically, if people stopped obsessing about the kills and actually tried to do things properly, I think everybody would be happier.

Now I know there's not much little old me can do about it, firstly because I haven't got much influence in the community, and secondly, I have even less time. But I was just wondering if there were people who feel the same way who might do a better job publicising this as it were. Say, a couple threads about tactics, a stickied guide or something, just to try and get people thinking about these things. Maybe it won't work at all, but does anyone think it would be worth a try?

Thanks for your time,
Inukshuk

i agree... no one cooperates but if you want people to do so, try captain co-op its pure fun... especially when you are 3 so you can cooperate

Yeah, that much is already known. I'm just saying that highly populated siege servers would be much more fun if people knew how to play. Was on one just now. We were attacking and the enemy kept opening and closing the castle entrance for some reason. It was the nomad camp map or something, the one with the big breakable double doors. Everytime they opened one, I was able to rush through it and open the other straight away. Everytime I died (nor more than two seconds later) I looked round and the rest of my team were just strafing about outside the doors. Nobody would follow me in. What's more, there were probably enough of us to take them, or at least hold the gates until reinforcements came. Had to leave in the end, since it just wasn't fun and I couldn't get through to anybody. Absolutely insane.

most/many (depending on who happens to be online) find focusing on mission too boring, compared to getting quick kills. You can imagine people as having a frag addiction, running from frag to frag, and all seem natural. It is about getting exciting combat NOW versus one minute walking as seeing flag moving downwards. So my point is that people do have brains but they just have different priorities. Maybe after a while, more and more people get bored of simple going and shooting and start getting more from tactical play.

I'd half suspected that, and if that is the case, then really they ought to just change that server to team death match. However, I don't think these people are being very clever for reasons like the situation at the gate I described in my previous post. Or the fact that they seem to think standing in the open taking pot shots at a heavily fortified enemy is going to go well. Regardless, anybody who does want to try and complete the objective is going to be in for a frustrating time and a high death count. That's why they ought to just change it to TDM, and treat it as serving the majority (since the majority of people play that way). If it's exciting combat they want, I'd have thought TDM would have been the natural choice. I'd be interested to see whether the conjecture at the end of your post turns out to be true, though. I hope it will.
