"The English longbowmen, the fastest archers on Western Europe, fired only 12 arrows each minute. In Mount&Blade, you can empty a full quiver in the same time, a quiver being 26 arrows.
I suggest you stop watching Legolas or crappy Hollywood movies. I have got a modern bow, and it's very difficult to fire 12 arrows/minutes nonetheless."
-I'm not and I don't. I have a replica medieval bow and I have a modern bow. I've shot arrows with both of them both at moving targets. English longbow men were shooting at a certain angle together as a unit as one. They did not aim, nor were they shooting as fast as they could individually but as a group as commands were given. They fired at an angle that would give result in the range they needed.
"Indeed.. it takes strenght to draw a string..
Some people see archers as those weak little agile guys, but they were actually the stronger ones.."
-yes, there is severe damage found at the shoulder socket of medieval archer's skeletons.
"yep, people draw little 10lb toy bows and think that is what a bow you would go to war with is like. Think that is easy, and that 80lbs would just be about 8x harder,... but it isn't."
-well it is 8x as much weight to draw the bow. It is 8x harder to lift the same weight.
"That's why guns and crossbows were invented"
-no, guns and crossbows are both much slower than bows. They were invented because it takes less skill to aim. In fact, at first bows were surperior to guns.
"Tell me if this is crap but i've heard that longbowmen could have 5 arrows in the air at once. That said I think bow speed is good as is while accuracy is too high."
-Depends on how you are shooting. You don't need to look if you are good simply going to load and fire an angle and load again.
"maybe you should try to fire a bow to prove this.. I have and you'll be lucky to shoot 10 arrows in a minute WITHOUT aiming too well and not hitting your forearm with the string... OUCH, MAN!"
- I don't ever hit my forearm with the string any more. I don't practice every day nor is it my living, but if it was I'm confident I could as long as I fired at a 45 degree angle only.
"But it is already so in current game. Aiming time decreases significantly as your archery proficiency increases"
-I have not noticed a reduction in speed of loading as your bow skill goes up. I do notice the increase in accuracy, but I also find that the accuracy should be the most accurate at first- not as it currently works.
