In 499 BC, the Greek world was put in peril by the mighty Persian Empire. First, the Ionian city states to the east of the Aegean were seized, and after that the Persian kings turned their sights onto the greatest prize of all: Greece proper. Greece was populous, prosperous, and advanced. The First to fall were the north Aegean Greeks and the Kingdom of Macedonia. Then, plunging into the heart of Greece, the Persian armies were repelled at Marathon, where a numerically inferior Athenian army defeated a massed force of Persians, ending the invasion. This brought peace for a time, but the enemy was resilient and returned just over two years ago.

This time, the invasion was delayed for a time at the pass of Thermopylae, with the Spartan King Leonidas sacrificing his life in order to buy the Greeks invaluable time to prepare for the invasion. Once again, the Persians were defeated, simultaneously on land and at sea, at Plataea and Salamis, respectively. This has crippled the Persian force and they will not be able to seriously threaten Greek independence for the immediate future. Additionally, the Persian forces have been pushed out back past the Bosporus, and the Ionian states have been liberated.

However, all is not without problems. The Greeks have a history of disagreeing and fighting among themselves, as there is no unifying authority in the land.  That they set aside their differences to repel a great foe can only have come at the time of greatest peril in known history. Now that the threat is diminished, old rivalries immediately begin to appear. Athens and Sparta, the two most powerful states, have a great mutual dislike, and the great alliance had already fallen apart. What is next in this new era?

Hello everyone, we've now reached the time for our next BoP: Lite game! This one will be set in the days of classical Greece, specifically 478 BC.

Here is the map I have made, I recommend opening in a new tab, since the file is quite large:

To apply, please PM me a list of your top three choices. With this list feel free to include as much or as little of a case for your choices as you like. Just know that someone that asks for a city with nothing backing it up will generally lose out to someone with a well reasoned write up about why they want to play what they've asked for. More is better, it shows you're enthusiastic.

Only greek city states are open to playing, these are marked in grey. Cities in Greece proper and on the Turkish coast are the largest and most influential, followed by those in Italy and Sicily (Magna Graecia), and finally the cities on the Black Sea and in the Western Mediterranean are generally small and less important. Do your research and choose wisely, there's lots of variety.

Following is a list of cities that I would definitely like to have filled for the game:

- Athens
- Sparta
- Corinth
- Thebes
- Miletus
- Ephesus
- Syracuse
- Naples

This is only eight and there will be a few more players, so anything's available.

Thanks for reading and I hope to get a lot of applicants! I'll probably keep it open for a week while I finalize everything and make CCs, and then the game will start.

Also for those newcomers, a BoP lite has fewer players and simpler mechanics than a standard BoP, so it's a good place to try out Balance of Power if you've read along and been interested, but never been brave enough to sign up.

For those who have asked me questions about game mechanics and whether or not they'll be more simple than a standard BoP, I present what the Card format will likely look like:

插入代码块:

Once all the numbers and such are filled in, this will be pretty much everything needed to play the game. I aim to not have to have the player reference the OP for almost anything.

Some specific goods would be interesting and very appropriate for this in my mind (i.e. marble, papyrus, olive oil, iron, bronze, etc.).

Sent you a PM, I'll need second and third choices for you, please.
Also, send them in by replying to the PM, not in here, I like to have all the apps in one place.

I've got ten applications, I'm willing to take up to two more. I'll be keeping everything open until the 21st, a week after I posted the thread. On the 21st, I'll announce who gets what country, and then it should only be a couple days for me to finish off country cards for everyone.

Also, I've added the Greek city of Argos to the map. For some reason I neglected to put them on the map originally, even though they were on my list of cities to include.

Argos is really cool, if you'd like to switch your application to include them send me a PM, it'd be cool to have them as a player.
