Generally it's against BoP rules to directly quote logs or take screenshots of chats, I find it horrible sportsmanship even if it is not strictly forbidden.

Potentially being betrayed and sharing information via second-hand players is what creates most of the intrigue in my mind, and I enjoy it when intrigue is present.

Sure, but in reality, barring modern communications, there wasn't exactly a way to prove absolutely what someone said.

Hence the standard rules being that you can state whatever you like, the line is drawn at quote and screen captures which, while they can be edited, may be falsely construed as absolute evidence. Yeah, it's true that lying and deceit is at the heart of Balance of Power, but it should be political in nature, not technical. Again, I'm saying this as someone who can competently falsify a screenshot, or of course a quote. It's not fair or really in the spirit of the game to require less computer-savvy players to learn to pick apart quotes and images to play the game 'on-level'.

I have been ninja'd by Ulf's edit and Dodes' post, for context.

Edit; and now that I have read both, I, obviously, agree.

In a game where I can just quote my chat logs, post a screenshot or whatever there is no risk however, I can just post said logs and suddenly everyone knows exactly what went down.

Are you referring to posting them in the thread? That sort of behavior is explicitly prohibited.

In general, since it's hardly much more time consuming to simply PM anyone involved in a dispute or discussion.

Furthermore, I assume that if I suddenly claim a faction is say, planning to invade another, even the people I don't private message will be inclined to pm me for more information.

To clarify I find ingame intrigue and political knife fighting awesome and great, but I don't really understand why it is desirable that it become something that hinges on things outside of the game that are more of an abstraction of something that happens ingame (i.e. two diplomats talking).

I don't know, maybe I'm just looking at it from a different perspective. Personally I only share info on what others are doing with people I'm allied to, just to keep them informed. I never really considered that someone would publicly announce the contents of a conversation to everyone else in the game.

Perhaps an example/analog would be my betrayal of the Comintern around the end of Pixel's game. I name-dropped nearly everyone in it, ousted its plans and did a bit of scaremongering. I didn't quote or screenshot anything, but if I had, it would have been even more potent... and also very unsportsmanlike, as Dodes said.

Fair enough, I can see where you guys are coming from now. I've only really experienced Hulk's SS BoP-Lite so far, and while I think I'm doing rather well at that I'm still far from an experienced player

Given these facts I wouldn't be against a ban on directly copying any communication or the like, although I'd still like the freedom to copy stuff like my character bio's to my allies (though I think it'd be decent if we only allowed players to share their own info, not that of someone else, at least not by directly copy-pasting).

From my understand, copying little stuff like that, particularly your own information, has never really been an issue even if it does technically fall within the wording. I wouldn't have questioned it as a host, anyhow. While copy-pasting other's information wasn't considered very sportsman-like.

The problem really just lies in that some people don't care about sportsmanship or playing the game for fun, but just winning. What's there to be done about it? Eh, nothing really, so no I'm not suggesting that anything needs to change. What I am suggesting is that you don't give people more material to be even more gamey in their play.

That doesn't change anything, since a PM to everyone relevant to the reveal is no different. A simply rule of 'no screenshots' would be the best way to go. Again, I don't mind quotes being barred, since they're just text and anyone can edit that easily or take it out of context (which everyone should be aware of).

Also, yes, I agree. Your rules have to apply to the entire game or they're pointless. You can could simply PM everyone in the game, or say it/share it over Skype and accomplish the exact same thing as posting it in thread while not 'breaking' the rule.

Fair enough. It seems like a lot of people have spoken out against it, so from now on it will be against the rules to directly quote anyone in private conversation, including the host.

As for enforcement, that is going to be on you guys. If someone is doing that and you don't like it, ask them to stop.

So I almost finished working on all of the hero and army statistics today, but I really need to hear back from Eternal and Gaham before I validate it. If I don't hear back from either of you by Friday or Sunday (depending on what other people think) then I think I am going to skip you and maybe you can join in next turn?

I'm of two minds right now - I am going to start writing up the final rules, explanations, and starting reports by tonight, tomorrow and Thursday. I should be able to finish that by Friday, but I have another wedding to go to that day and probably won't be able to answer any questions until Sunday. Basically, I can start Friday, but not have a lot of time to talk about the game until Sunday, or I can start Sunday. Do people have a preference? Orders would be due two weeks after the game starts.

I am going to be super busy from now until Tuesday afternoon so I don't mind any delay.

Speaking of that, there is a strong chance I won't be able to post much until Tuesday evening EST time, just so you know.

Might as well wait until Sunday, just to make sure you can help out anyone who has questions. By the way, I couldn't find much info on the Sarpa religion offhand. I imagine you'll have to make it up as you go along, so I assume there will be a basic summary?

Oh no, I know plenty about the Hist already. I've been reading everything there is to read about the lore this past month.

I will also be posting generic religious descriptions when the main thread goes up, but if you have questions about the Hist send them to me in a PM - as an Argonian player, I'd be happy to share more detailed information about the Hist with you.
