[BoP: 1700] Battle of Vienna, Holy League Victory!

Users who are viewing this thread

After a long day of fulfilling his kingly obligations, August the Strong finally goes to sleep, only to awaken in a nightmare....

Only he isn't August II anymore. He is now John III Sobieski, the man who saved Vienna with the largest cavalry charge in history. He looks around him, sees thousands of troops amassed, with an Ottoman force perhaps twice as large as his ahead of him, close to capturing Vienna...

He knows that he won this battle, once before. But what if he didn't? What if Vienna fell, its inhabitants slaughtered by the Turks? He shudders at the thought. He grabs his sword and walks over to a group of German commanders huddled by a campfire.

For this inter-turn report, the Battle of Vienna will be tactically replayed. Both teams will be given starting positions and forces, including a map, and will be expected to write coordinated turn orders for the Battle of Vienna. Each "turn" will last approximately three hours, starting at 5AM September 12th, with the last turn directly before the global turn report is out being "played to completion" and deciding the winner. While this alternative history result will not change any events in BoP: 1700, the victorious players will be rewarded with small bonuses depending upon the magnitude of their victory, and the losers will be similarly penalized.

A report of the battle proceeds will be posted publicly in this thread. Although the battle will be staged similarly to the historical Battle of Vienna in 1683, some details will be changed in order to prevent "history cheating."

May the best tacticians emerge victorious!

Battle of Vienna, 8 AM Report

August II, looking through the eyes of Sobieski, saw the battle unfold ahead of him. The Bavarians were doing well, their long pikes and rapid marching having just stopped a Crimean flank dead in its tracks. His own cavalry were racing down the hill, storming down towards the Ottoman flank, an ironic turn of events for the Muslim forces. Still, not all was well. His German infantry, despite holding superior ground on the hill, just reported Ottoman forces on their flanks rapidly advancing, and the Austrians were running out of morale against the horde of Turks.

"I got the better of the last three hours," he smiles confidently, but his demeanor wavers as he sees division after division of Ottoman forces converge on his tired and wounded troops. He won't be able to win this battle by superior positioning alone, he fears. This is the day that everyone must prove they are a hero.
