found a book which shows head injuries and stuff, and how to treat it. pretty sick stuff:
http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=eDnIAdjXZRcC&pg=PA8&lpg=PA8&dq=axe+blow+newtons&source=bl&ots=Z4E3Lj49qW&sig=KtQLUlHKFa9mcn0_PQ3wNg9XJQQ&hl=en&ei=S4DySYPjM4Wv-QakttSyDw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3#PPA27,M1
there's a guy which got scalped, one with a shotgun wound to his face, where you can see a CT scan of all the shotgun pellets embedded in his head,
and one guy with a knife stuck in his forehead. he was alive and awake, but would most likely die from the injury, or live with severe mental disabilities.
