Ok Bruce, you're really exaggerated about numbers  1500 soldiers to an unique lord is ... strange

Yes, I also thought that before, but I think he had explained that here  :

Great work, like always
i'm just little confused about number of troops
Because Calradia is not that big land, i think ( because of number of in-game troops) that complete Calradia had a less of million populace. But, thats just my opinion, keep goin' , great work

Well Calradia has 5 kingdoms, and every kingdom about 1000 soldiers. If I write a battle 100 vs 100, it would be more like patrol vs patrol. Or for castle siege. Only one hundred men defend castle. Not realistic, so I had put in on thousands instead of hundreds.

Well, that's how I like it. I can't imagine a battles for example 100 vs 100... It's more like a battle of patrols..
Or when sieging castle... I just can't stand it.
So instead of hundreds, I put thousands

Chapter XXIV - Business in desert

Town of Ehlerdah, a small town owned by Kingdom of Swadia, arch-enemies of the steppe tribes. Swadians... many have told that they are the only ones capable of uniting the ancient Calrad Empire. But Bold didn't think so. He was now in front of town of Ehlerdah, after his scouts reported him about the bandits who kidnapped merchant's daughter.

They're somewhere in the town, well hidden, because they heard about Bold's arrival. They yet didn't knew that Bold is here to rescue merchant's daughter, but they are afraid of him, probably of his nickname Al'Gauti.
Bold didn not want draw attention, so he got into the city with only ten of his most trusted men. Among them were Kushi, his right-hand man, and Desmondes, most trusted man after Kushi.
Judging by it's look and mess on the streets, one could say that town of Ehlerdah is poor town. And indeed that was true. It wasn't much populated, maybe a thousand at most, and about half of it's citizens were beggars. It looks like Harlaus doesn't care about towns which are on the border.

If Ehlerdah was at position of Suno of Praven, it would be a rich town for sure, but since it's the border town... It's the center of raids and pillage.
Many people came to Bold begging for few coins. Bold remembered his experience in Rivacheg. He gave a coin to a beggar, only to attract dozens of others. This time, he decided not to be merciful.

For the whole day, Bold and his men searched for the bandits, but they couldn't find them. Not until one man bumped into a Bold and fell on ground. Bold remained on his feet and looked at the man.
When a man who was laying on the ground recognized Bold's yellow eyes, he turned and ran away.
''This may be one of them.'', Bold said to his men without turning his head ''Let's follow him, quickly!''

A pursuit didn't lasted long. A man who tried to escape was caught and interrogated in the one of muddy valleys.
''Where is merchant's daughter?'', Bold said while looking off in the distance.
A blood was flowing out of man's mouth. Bold's men can be really rough at times. ''I don't know what are you talking about!''
Bold sighed, turned and looked at man ''If you tell me, I'll let you go, I swear.''
Man raised his eyebrows, probably thinking is it good to sell out his comrades. ''All right.. I'll tell you.'', he said after some time ''Follow the main street until you get to square. You'll see a tavern 'A wine spring'. They're inside that tavern, as well as the girl.''

Bold smiled and nodded to his men, ordering them to let the man go. ''Go now, you're free.''
Man said nothing and ran away without looking back.
''Let's go. Merchant's daughter awaits for us.''

--

Bold and his men arrived into the tavern, only to spot that it's empty, there was no one in there. From tavernkeeper, Bold learnt that about fifteen men arrived last night and rented the room. There was a girl with them, with bruises on her face and ragged clothes.
Bold smiled to tavernkeeper and proceeded upstairs. Tavern wasn't that big, there was only about twenty rooms. First ten rooms were empty, and when Bold wanted to check the next one, he spotted three men standing at the end of a hall.
''Who are you? What do you want?'', one of these men asked. All of them had swords in their hands.
Bold smiled to them, drawing a sabre out of it's sheath. ''My name is Al'Gauti. I'm came here for merchant's daughter.''

Bandits widened their eyes when they realised that Al'Gauti himeslf came here to rescue the daughter of merchant. ''What... about the.. ransom?''
''I'll pay your ransom, but with cold steel.'', Desmondes said after he appeared in front of Bold ''Now, do you want to take it?''

At another moment, Desmondes was enaging in fight with three men. They were unskilled and inexperienced. It could be seen by their lame attacks and attempts of defense. In the matter of seconds, they were laying dead on the wooden floor.
As Desmondes slowly go into the room, Bold heard a clatter of swords again. When he looked in the room, he saw Desmondes fighting about five men at the same time. It was time for Bold to save the day.
''Kushi, go fight the other ones. I believe you can defeat them by yourself. Rest of you, guard the place.'', Bold ordered and rushed into the room where Desmondes fought.

When one bandit attacked Desmondes from behind, and right when he prepared to cut his head off, Bold pierced him with a perfect thrust through his neck. Blood sprayed Desmondes' head and he sighed when he realised that ''You had to pierce the neck...'', he said after finishing off remaining bandits.
Bold smiled to him ''Well, you would be dead by now if I didn't pierced him. Consider that blood on your head as a lucky charm.''
Desmondes just nodded and sighed again. ''Let's see how's Kushi doing..''

--

At the moment Desmondes and Bold got in the room where Kushi fought, they spotted three corpses, none of these was Kushi's or girl's. A merchant's daughter was standing next to Kushi. She indeed was beautiful, but her face was covered with bruises and her clothes was ragged, just as tavernkeeper said.
''You are safe now.'', Bold said to her and approached her.
''Who are you?! What do you want?!'', she bursted. She was still in shock..
Bold sighed and looked her right in the eyes ''I am Al'Gauti.''

Girl widened her eyes when she heard that name ''You..'', started ''...are you Muhammad's friend?''
Bold smile to young girl and nodded his head slowly ''Yes, I am friend to Muhammad. And I made a promise to him and your father that I'll rescue you from those rascals that kidnapped you. Eat now, you have to rest. A long and tiring journey awaits us in morning.

--

Closest way to Bariyye was through the steppe, the hostile territory. Also, that path was unsafe because of Khergits. There is also a path through the mountains towards the desert, although Bold will have to pass next to Halmar, but that path was impassable, since massive Khergit army there.
Traveling all the way south to the Shariz and then proceeding further in the desert was not an option. It will take him few more days, and Bold was in hurry.
He wants to complete this quest quickly and return to help Vaegirs in the tundra.

Bold and his men rode through the steppe without much strugle. Only enemies they encountered were few patrols, which were easily defeated. When Bold reached Tulga, he indeed was right when he thought that he may encounter a bigger and stronger enemy.

Brula Noyan, with three others. They had over twenty tousands soilders. They were assembling their army for the defence of the Khanate.
These Noyans posed end for Bold's army, which was brutally slaughtered by the army led by Brula Noyan. Five hundred horsemen cannot defeat an army of twenty thousands.
Bold was lucky to have his companions alive as well as merchant's daughter. Unfortunately for Karaban, he didn't escaped. Brula has sent many parties to chase after Bold, but he managed to avoid them and escape them all. Upon reaching the desert, Bold was relieved. They will be safe now.

--

''For the name of Allah!'', Muhammad spoke and raised both of his hands when he spotted Bold on the streets of Bariyye, alongside the daughter of his friend ''You made it!''
There was another man with Muhammad, and he smiled when he saw the young maiden Bold saved from bandits ''Ezra!'', he yelled and hugged his daughter, who started crying when she saw her father.
''Let's go into my house. There we will talk.''

Bold was served with tea when he got into Muhammad's house. As Muhammad and his friend did, Bold sat on the pile of pillows, only to be followed by Desmondes.
A man sat besides Muhammad, probably father of the kidnapped girl.
''Al'Gauti, this is Sain, Ezra's father. He came here to thank you on your efforts of rescuing his daughter.'', Muhammad said
Sain's look was fixed to Bold's yellow eyes ''Al'Gauti...'', he finally started ''You have my gratitude. A ransom I had to paid brought me to my knees, and this purse I'll give you is the biggest payment I can offer. I hope you will accept it.'', after he finished his little talk, Sain stood up and walked to Bold, giving him a pretty large purse. ''There is about 250 denars in there.''

Bold untied and opened the purse, only to check if there's 250 denars ''There indeed is a lot of money, Sain. I am grateful. With this money, I could pay expenses of my army, which was unfortunately lost when Khergits attacked us in the steppe.''
Muhammad and Sain widened their eyes when they heard ''You are defeated in battle, Al'Gauti?''

''He is not a god!'', Desmondes bursted ''There was over twenty-thousands Khergits out there, while there was about five hundreds of our warriors.''
Bold placed a hand on Desmondes' shoulder ''Calm down, Desmondes. There is no need for anger.''

''Desmondes?'', Muhammad said surprisingly ''The uncrowned King of Swadia?''
Desmondes looked angrily at Muhammad, then nodded his head slowly ''That's a title I gained when I fought for Swadia.''
''Indeed, you are an interesting man, Desmondes..'', Sain then started talking. Bold didn't bothered to listen to him, so he stood up and walked away to Kushi.

--

Muhammad awarded Bold's companions with women and drink. Kushi of course refused. As well as Bold, who got out of Muhammad's house on the fresh air. He already drank few cups of wine. It was pretty hot in Muhammad's house.
Bold breathed deeply, remembering his life while his father was alive, before he was exiled.
Yesugei loved his sons, Bold knew that. He wanted his sons to rule the steppe one day, to restore the glory of the Wolves. That's all what he wanted. But then he died, as all his sons except the oldest one, except the one who calls himself the Wolf of the Plain, a man destined to conquer whole Calradia, by destroying it. And it is said that he will be born in the steppe, with yellow eyes that glow in dark.
''He will conquer, rule and destroy.'', Bold quoted the words of Prophecies.

If he bring a claim to the world that he is Wolf of the Plain, people will think of him as of a madman. It's enough that he earned a title of Al'Gauti. When he becomes a renowned and feared warlord, he will claim a title of Wolf of the Plain.
He smiled thinking about what to do next. His army is defeated. Twenty of them survived at most. But they waren't trained that well. Good thing that Khergits haven't looted a chest with denars. There's at least 5000 denars needed for providing the army with supplies as well as with weapons and armours. He found flaws in his way of commanding, but they won't exsist from now on. From now on, he will be remembered as a man who made the world tremble.

Bold continued walking through the streets of Bariyye. Air in the desert was cold at night, while unbearably hot during daylight. But it was refreshing, nothing like in Muhammad's house.
A breeze was blowing right into Bold. He liked it. Because of it, he didn't heard steps behind him. A man covered in cloak with a knife that shined on the moonlight. He sneaked carefully towards Bold, who still was unaware that his life might end by the moment. Assassin raised knife with intention to stab it in Bold's nape.
Bold closed his eyes, still didn't knowing about assassin behind him. He was thinking about his family. All of them are dead. He is only O'Ginn left in this cruel world. He is the only one now, who can restore the glory of O'Ginns.
Then, a picture of assassin that attacked him in Praven appeared in Bold's mind. He saw himself standing in the streets of Praven, looking towards a dark figure which was approaching him.

Then, Bold opened his eyes and turned around, only to see assassin swinging his knife. He tried to dodge the attack, and he succeeded, but not without an injury. Assassin managed to cut his flesh right under right eye. This will not heal without a scar, but it wouldn't heal anyway if this assassin kills him. Bold placed a hand where a hilt of sword should be. He frowned when he realised that he left a sword in the Muhammad's house.
Yelling won't help him, he is already few streets away of Muhammad's house. Good thing that he had a knife under his sleeve. He pulled the knife and attacked assassin, who easily dodged the attack and cut his waist. Bold yelped and almost fell on the ground, but he managed to keep a balance.
He turned around to see assassin attacking again. He swung his knife trying to cut Bold's throat, but Bold crouched and stabed knife into assassin's chest. Assassin immediately fell on the ground. Bold stabbed assassin several more times. Assassin was wearing a hood. Bold took it off of his head to see a face of assassin.
Assassin was middle-aged man, with a big scar stretching from his eye to the mouth. Bold didn't recognized him. He wasn't a man from the steppe nor Vaegir or Nord. Not even a Sarranid. Swadians and Rhodoks are similiar people in many ways. It's either one of them.

Then, at the scene appeared Desmondes, running out of a alley ''Bold, where were you?''
Bold raised his head to see Desmondes running towards him, only to stop when he saw a corpse of assassin ''Again, huh?''
Bold slowly nodded his head. He stopped counting how many times assassins tried to kill him since Praven. He was attacked in Sungetche as well, but is saved by Desmondes, who killed assassin using bow. Arrow managed to hit assassin right in his mouth.
Not only he was a good swordsman, but Desmondes showed that he is good archer as much as Bold. He truly is an interesting man.
''Let's go back to Muhammad's house.'', Desmondes said, offering a hand to Bold, who was crouching next to the assassin's body.

Bold smiled to Desmondes, and took his hand. Two of them started walking towards Muhammad's house, without hurry.
''There is many good maidens in Muhammad's harem. You must choose one.'', Desmondes said while smiling.
So, that place is called harem. Interesting.
''All right. I believe I deserved that.'', Bold responded and two of them continued walking while smiling and talking about women.

Great chapter! And, god why, you fought against 3 lords without any help?
And(I don't want to criticize you but help), it's the second time i see you doing this:
He liked it. Becuase of it, he didn't heard steps behind him.

What's wrong with it? He liked the slow breeze blowing into his face.. As it's the wind, it produced a sound (or whatever) and because of that, he was unable to hear the steps behind him, although they were hard to hear even without that wind....
And that 3 lords were Khergit lords (only cavalry) I tried to escape them, but they managed to catch me, as I had both infantry and cavarly in my army..

No no man! You did not understand. Your slogan is not incorrect but the word because is. You written becuase..

Chapter XXV - Vassalage

Bold and his men remained at Muhammad's house for a single night. July 20th was the date they left. Bold was in hurry, in hurry to get to Kingdom of Vaegirs. Many Vaegirs will want to join his army, since he made a pretty good impression last time he was in tundra. So he decided to travel through the hostile steppe once more, to try the luck. For a single day, the managed to get to the Tulbuk castle, once a Khergit fortress, now conquered by Vaegirs. And if you continue north of the Tulbuk, you will arrive to the Nelag pass, one of two renowned passes of Bolormaa mountains.

After guards at Nelag castle allowed Bold to cross the pass, Bold and his men found themselves in the cold and merciless tundra.Strong wind was blowing on the mountains, cold enough to freeze a water in the matter of seconds. From Nelag pass, a man could see only endless land of snow and a few trees. But as the terrain was getting lower, Bold spotted more and more trees, as well as few streams, whose water was unbearably cold.
Since the water supplies were running low, Bold ordered his men to fill only their water bottles with a water from the stream. Even the coldest water will get warmer by time they reach warmer places, such as big city of Reyvadin.

--

Since they were traveling in tundra, Bold was traveling really slow, because of many blizzards that rules the southern parts of tundra. In the morning of July 22th, Bold finally arrived to Reyvadin, a capital of Kingdom of Vaegirs. City was pretty much similiar to the Rivacheg, except it was much bigger, and it's fortress wasn't amazing as the 'Rock of Rivacheg'.
As Bold rented room for himself and his men in the one of local inns, Desmondes advised him to buy a land in this city. They walked through the main street of Reyvadin, which was the wider street in the city while they talked about future business.
''You can buy an oil press. It will earn you pretty much denars every week.'', Desmondes explained while two of them walked towards guild master, who was standing on the center of the main street, talking to a few rich merchants.

As Bold and Desmondes approached guild master, he greeted them ''Good day, soldiers. What do you need?'
Soldier?, Bold thought. This man was getting on his nerves already, both by the way he talks and his look. Guild master was a man of late years. He had a completely white goatee, but no mustache. He was also bald, as well as Desmondes, and two of their heads were like shining on the morning sun.
''I want to buy a productive enterprise, guild master. I need to make a profit for the upcoming months.'', Bold explained using his usual, emotionless voice.
Guild master then started laughing uproariously ''Such a jest, soldier. What are your names, I'll give you few coins for making me laugh.''
Desmondes flushed with anger, he tried to squash the throat of guild master, but Bold ordered him not to. He better keeps calm because he'll only make a bad impression in Reyvadin.
''Will you tell me your names, so I can give you few coins?''
''This is enough!'', Bold bursted and punched guild master so hard that he flied few paces before he hit the ground. ''What is this? I'll call the guards!'', guild master yelled.
Bold and Desmondes crouched next to the guild master ''Don't judge by the look, idiot.'', Bold said while smiling. ''It may be your last.'', Desmondes finished.

--

In the end, it all finished with Bold buying the oil press for 4500 denars, for a weekly income of 400 denars. Bold sent Alayen and Bahesthur to spread a word that Al'Gauti has arrived in town. After less than an hour, at least 50 men were standing in front of inn where Bold was staying volunteering themselves for the army.
All of them were ordinary peasants knowing nothing about the war, about the cruelty, about the death. But they will learn everything about it, soon enough.
At the end of a day, more than a two hundreds joined Bold's army, yet they were untrained and unready for a real battle. A band of twenty Sea Raiders would be able to kill them all with ease.
As Bold wanted to train his men, he accepted to do a favor for a local merchant. And that is to escort his caravan to the city of Yalen, for a sum of 347 denars in a less than a fifteen days.

A trip to Yalen started in the dawn of july 23th. Bold wasn't in hurry, as he trained his soldiers every night for at least 2 hours. Even some of caravan guards joined the training. Kushi was the someone who could be called a 'main' trainer. He's the one who orders to everybody during training. He is teaching the young Vaegirs how to properly hold the sword, the proper battle stances, attacks and attempts of defenses. Since Bold had no wooden swords, and only few swords, his men were training with a sticks. Still, better that than nothing.

Upon reaching Rhodok highlands, Bold was amazed. There was no a single place of plain. Every single place in Rhodokia was either a mountain or a valley. When Bold spotted a town in a distance, Ymira started talking something to Alayen about the orchards of Veluca. So that black dot in distance is actually a renowned city of Veluca, one of richest cities in whole Kingdom of Rhodoks, if not in whole Calradia as well.
The stories say that a unificator of 'First Calrad Empre' Alixenus the Great is born in the city of Veluca, which was also the oldest town in whole of Calradia.
Before his reign, Calradia was in chaos. Everyone was waging a war against everyone, until he united all of Calradia and a New Age started. It is true that Alixenus' empire lasted only for 2 years, but during that 2 years, order and a law in Calradia was created. After his death in 2nd year of the New Age, or 2nd year after uniting the Empire, Calradian Empire collapsed into six kingdoms.

--

City of Yalen was least impressive city in Rhodokia. After all, it was the only one Bold saw after Veluca. Jelkala still remains undiscovered for him. On his trip to Yalen, he saved villagers of Chaeza from bandits, and twenty Rhodoks joined his army. Rhodoks are born crossbowmen. Many stories praise them as the best crossbowmen in the whole world. This will prove to be useful for Bold and his army if he decides to conquer a castle.

At the end of July, Bold has left a Kingdom of Rhodoks, earning 347 denars. On the way to the Kingdom of Vaegirs, he learnt that Yaroglek signed peace with bastard Sanjar after conquering Ichamur. Peace with Khergits... it is signed to early. Bold was still thirsty of Khergits' blood, he didn't killed much of them. His quest on exterminating Khergits has just started. Although he doesn't know what to do with Bahesthur. Basically, his father was Khergit, his mother was Khergit. They're both dead. Maybe he'll decide to spare Bahesthur.. Who knows..

Khergit patrol traveled all the way to Yalen with a ransom for Karaban Noyan. A whole chest of 2400 denars. That was pretty much money, which will be needed in future for providing the army. Bold gladly accepted and gave Karaban to the Khergits, although having second thoughts whether to kill the all or to let them go. In the end, he decided not to kill them, yet.
As Bold was getting closer and closer to the Kingdom of Vaegirs, a messanger came galloping towards him. He handed him a message with a seal of King Yaroglek.
''Bold O'Ginn, I hope you recieved this message. It is not a custom to invite commons to the royal feasts, but I do invite you. Because of your deeds in Khergit Khanate and in Sungetche pass, you have earned a right to be invited to the royal feast in Reyvadin. I hope you will arrive soon.

Yaroglek Damodred, twenty sixth of his name, Lord of Reyvadin, King of all Vaegirs
''

This indeed was Yaroglek's message. It is good to be invited to the royal feast, by a king himself. This will finally get him in the good light. He met few lords in the Naldera's camp in the Sungetche pass. On the feast in Reyvadin, Bold will not only meet some lords, but a young ladies as well. This will indeed get him into the good light.

--

Bold dressed the finest clothes he had. He wore a red coat. This impeccable garment is created in all of its splendor here, having been crafted from beautiful fiery red-orange cotton brocade fabric. Golden embroidery adorns the collar, shoulders, and sleeves.
''How do I look?'', Bold asked Desmondes and Kushi who widened their eyes when they looked at him.
Kushi opened his mouth withotu knowing what to say. ''You look..... strange.'', Desmondes said ''I didn't know you had such a fancy clothes. Where did you get it?''

Bold smiled to them ''Well, another gift from Muhammad. He said that the great kings only wore a coats like this one.''
''Kings?'', Kushi said. An old man really is sceptical.
Bold nodded ''Yes, kings. It suits me well, doesn't it?''
This red coat really suited Bold well, actually it suited him perfectly. ''Then, I suppose I should go to the feast. King Yaroglek himself invited me to the feast. That means I'm important person, unlike you...''
''Don't be so cocky, Bold...'', Desmondes said while smiling ''I'm not called the 'Uncrowned King of Swadia' for nothing, you know.''
''That goes for me as well...'', Kushi started this time ''I have many titles, such as ''Kushi the Exile'', which I got for killing more than a fifty men, alone. Also, there is a title 'A lone Wolf'.. There are many others, although I can't remember their names.''

Bold widened his eyes ''You can't remember names of your titles? You truly are a strange man, Kushi.'', Bold said and finally got out of his room and headed to the palace.
As he got into the palace, all eyes present were focused at him. They probably expect me to say something., Bold thought and cleared his throat ''Good evening, my lords and ladies.'', he started and already remained speechless for a few moments ''Well...'', he said and stopped immediately. Everyone was looking at him. Come on, think.. think.... THINK! ''My name is Bold O'Ginn. I am son of Yesugei O'Ginn, former Khan of Wolves. I am stripped of that title by Ogadai Mandukhai, current Khan of Wolves. Now I am just a mercenary serving a good King Yaroglek'', he said and looked at ruler of all Vaegirs and bowed ''I am invited by his majesty to this feast, and I am grateful. I greet you all, my lords and ladies.''

Many lords nodded their head as a greeting to Bold, everyone except Gastya and his father Meriga. Many ladies present watched Bold and smiled to him. One even sent kisses.
Then, King Yaroglek stood up and tapped a glass ''May I get your attention, my lords and ladies?''
Everyone now turned to King Yaroglek, who started talking with a deep, ordering voice ''Before we start this feast, I wish to reward this young man.'', he said while looking at Bold and smiling ''I wish to reward him with offering him to serve me as a lord, not mercenary. What I am saying you Bold O'Ginn, Al'Gauti, is that I'm offering you to become my vassal.''

Bold widened his eyes A vassal? and looked around himself. Many lords nodded approvingly, Meriga and Gastya were not among them. ''Do you accept?''

Bold then smiled. He thought about many benefits of being a lord. A right to rule a certain land. This was a real opportunity he was waiting for.
''I accept, my lord. I wish to be your vassal.'', Bold responded while smiling.

''Then come, Bold O'Ginn. From this day on, you shall be remembered as my vassal. From this day on, you shall be remembered as Boyar Bold O'Ginn.''

Author's notes:

Well guys, I really hope you like this chapter. As you can see, I became a vassal of Kingdom of Vaegirs, but don't worry. I won't remain a vassal for the whole game. I'll become a king and rule an indenpendent kingdom one day and crush Calradia with my forces. Wish me luck and hopes that I fulfill my goal.
