Blue screen of death

I downloaded the demo of M&B and played until level 6, So enthralled was I, that i decided to buy it. Once I'd unlocked the full version, I tried to load the game I'd started with the demo version, only to be greeted with a blue screen of death. My computer restarted.

I began a new quest with a new character and played 11 days with her, getting to level 7 experience. Suddenly yesterday I tried to load up the game and once again got the blue screen and the computer restarted.

What's going on?!

I have the same problem with three characters that are under level six (I'm gonna buy it, don't worry arma  ), but I very well might also have a worm (or ten).

there's nothing wrong with my laptop or windows at all, and every other game works fine. i can start a new game without problem

Yeah, I too can start new characters, but if I exit the game, and then come back and try to reload, it doesn't work, and my computer reboots.

For me, it flashes for a split second, then the computer restarts. No time to catch any of the page's worth of text there.

Recovery Settings

One of the things that is quite different about Windows XP compared to Windows 9x (9x is shorthand for Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me in all their various versions), is that one can control how it responds to certain critical errors—those that cause the infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). In Windows XP, the default setting is for the computer to reboot automatically when a fatal error occurs. If that fatal error only occurs when you're shutting down, the system reboots automatically.

If you haven't changed any of the system failure settings, you should be able to see the error by looking in the Event Log. But a better long-term solution is to turn off the automatic reboot so you can actually see the error when it happens—chances are it will tell you enough about itself to let you troubleshoot further. To change the recovery settings to disable automatic rebooting:

1.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2.

Click the Advanced tab.

3.

Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

4.

Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

5.

Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Now when you go to shut down and a fatal error occurs, you'll at least see it and it won't cause an automatic reboot. You still have to sort out what's causing the problem, but that gets us to the next section quite nicely.

Try this, then post the error. Write it down, perhaps? I'd also suggest getting some sort of monitoring program to check your system/cpu temperatures. Another common reason of BSODs is memory failure, for that I suggest getting memtest or some other memory testing tool to check your RAM stability.

I'm having the same "sudden reboot" and CTD. M&B generally runs *very* stable, and these fallouts usually only happen on rare occations, but last night they came 5 in a row within two hours - then I played several hours without any problems again.

I was unable to reproduce the problem on purpose, but ALL the crashes happened when travelling on the main map - not a single problem occured in actual battle.

I also experienced the "PC reboot on game exit", but only once.

I haven't had similar problemet with other 3D titles (like Battlefield 1942/Vietnnam, Half-Life 2 etc.).

I'll change the Windows crash settings so I can collect more information. I'll also upgrade my ATI drivers, as I'm sure they are a little out of date.

I know this isn't much to go by, but if more people have the same problem we might eventually collect enough material to make an educated guess.

Innocence: Can you also try reducing maximum frame rate from configuration script? If it's a heating related problem it shouldn't come out with low frame rates.

Sure. It's currently at the default 150 FPS max. (and it usually runs at around 130-150 FPS). What number would you suggest reducing it to?

Try 60 mabye? Failing that, 40, 30?

I have the same problem, but strangely it only occurs on my laptop. My PC runs the game smoothly. Im running a Fujitsu Siemens Computers Mobile with 1500 Mhz Intel Pentium M. It has XP Professional 2002 with SP 2. The graphics driver is the laptops own. So far it has either corrupted every savegame i make. Or then it just fails to load that, i'm not sure which one causes the problem.

Could it possibly be a case of me not having a new DivX? This is the only game ever installed on this laptop, as it's not mine.

Ok i got the error a few different ways but the most common occurs when ordering soldiers to mount horses in battle(not the tournament)

the error reads as follows

file d:armagancreaturesvertexshaderscragent_ai.cpp
line: 1445
Expression: horse.agent_type==at_horse

On a P.S.- This game is truly remarkable...best rpg combat ive seen...the fact that 2 people are developing this game is impressive to say the least, if you guys had a team and some funding, the sky is the limits...cant wait to see what the next update does...keep up the unbelieveable work

Everyone else is talking about BSODs and their computer auto restarting (did you even read the posts?).
This is something completely different and (I think) has been fixed for the next version.

@Vaerrant--Thanks. I currently have the configuration at 10.

I'll try to reproduce it--I think all my saves are corrupted.

And at Tera--you're right, but it was kinda harsh.

This has happened to two of my files. The following message is shown on the BSOD:

If you would notice, ialmdd5.dll seems to be a display driver.

I found a work-around for the game-loading crash. It doesn't always work, but if it doesn't, I found that starting and properly exiting M&B followed by a reboot seems to work. The steps are listed below:

1. Execute the M&B launcher as normal.

2. Click on "Configure."

3. Scroll down the text file and locate the line, "start_windowed = 0".

4. Change the 0 to a 1.

5. Save and close the text file.

6. Start the game and load your saved game.

7. You can now switch to full-screen mode (ALT+ENTER) and play as normal.

-- I have been able to load games that would normally crash quite successfully until I exit and restart M&B, which then the above steps must be repeated.

-- You cannot begin in full-screen mode, switch to windowed mode via ALT+ENTER, and load your game. It will crash if you do so.

If any of this is unclear, please say so, or if you have more to contribute, then please do so.

gah, didn't mean to come across as being harsh there. Sorry Jahpetto

This error happens to me but only when I "Exit to Windows", so I don't think the frame rate will have anything to do with it.
I'll get the message next time it happens.

i got rebooted when i exited to windows didnt see the blue screen. i had a forum open i saw that for a second then it went black restared. after restart nothing opened i turned it off whne i put comp back on it worked again havent tried game again yet though i hope this gets sorted out cos im annoyed
