I Think it might be a cool setup if perhaps you could get married and have a son or whatever, then when you die of old age(or if they ever let you in the game) you can take over as the son and play through a whole lineage.

The system doesnt have to be to crazy involved I don't think, just the ability to maybe have a list of people to marry in each town or somethin then you marry them and as time progresses you might get a message -you have a son- etc etc... then perhaps they can join your group.

Well, it's a nice idea indeed, expecially with quests where some of your enemies will kidnap them and will demand a ransom, and having to feed them, etc. And besides, talking about tournaments where winners suppose to draw hot chicks like hmm, honey - bees :).
However, having your kid join your group... well, don't you think that the player might die of old age first? :) After all, thats like 14 (or so) years of game time at the very least.

Well, perhaps you could just decide to semi-retire, and for an in-game month, you character gets a day job, makes a little money, and ages. After 6 months (which would pass as either instantly, or as a quick animation), you'd get the option to start adventuring again or keep resting.

never tried pirates but the system I talk about is from Europa 1400 the guild, one of the best games ive ever played.

Well... that precisely the reason i refused to play that game. When i create a character, give him, or her, a back story, motivation, wounds, beliefs... i simply don't want my character to "permanently die".

I wish to keep him/her for the whole play through.

I do realize there are people who make characters in two minutes and couldn't care less about gettin them killed and going on as the son/daughter... but well... their problem, i spend much effort in creating my characters, killing them is out of the question :D

I think it's a great idea! Lots of old classics have this function (Pirates, Sword of the Samurai, Uncharted Waters, and even newer games like SaGa Frontier 2 employ it).

yeah it would also maybe be neat to see how things evolve (who takes what city etc) and maybe if the world is dynamic enough you can see it change as you go through the ages :P

Yeah. That'd be real cool. You start out as a piss-poor hunter in a city that's made mostly of mud and dung, but as the years pass by, you get money, and allies, and possibly a title, and bequeath it to your progeny. Then more years pass, and after eight generations or so, you're in a world with steam engines and revolvers.

Hmm... why don't you play some Civilization, then? :P
Remeber, the more features the game will have, the more bugs, the more time it will have to be spend on making it... Better concentrate on things that are easier to do and have more impact on gameplay, not suggesting stuff that will be a hell to make 'just for fun'.

You don't think that's a little over the top do you?

I like the idea of a lineage type thing going on, or a character aging or whatnot but I think that would all distract from the main purpose of the game. It all depends on what the storyline will be.
