I don't get people who are saying the block delay is more realistic. How? If anyone has done any HEMA in the past as I used to practice, you'll learn that even a total newbie can simply place his weapon in a way that protects him from a stroke, it's not hard. Real fighting is about using mechanics or leveraging of your blade vs the other, or shields, if that is also in the equation, to protect yourself while landing a hit at the same time. Swords are lightweight, and even with a big axe, it's not exactly hard to maneuver just the wooden shaft. You're not a sloth, you're a human being who can move light objects quickly when your life depends on it. Just basic blocking in Warband is already far harder than it is in real life, making it EVEN harder is just stupid and unrealistic.

I LIKE WHEN THE GAME ACTIVELY PROHIBITS ME FROM PLAYING THE GAME.

The devs themselves said that block delay wasn't something intended, why are people still defending this.

Oh, couldn't find a dev response in the search. Mind linking/quoting it to me? I'd be very grateful.

Thanks dude, I'll look through as well. Any idea what the name was perhaps?
I think it was this one but i'm not sure, they definitely said there was an issue with the servers and blocking. I don't know if it was fixed in the meantime but the fact is that in the past they mentioned there was issues with blocking but some people just kept saying it wasn't an issue.

They never said if this issue was fixed i believe, unless a dev can respond and prove me wrong. The servers nowdays also have issues so maybe there is again unintentional block delay as a result of the servers

The strange thing about this post is that it seems to imply that if you physically click to block in time, your character is supposed to block the attack (like it was in Warband) otherwise why implement a UI showing mouse clicks to see whether the player actually blocked in time or not. But we also know that the game has 100% intended mechanics that make your character put up their active block later, such as weapon handling, and there would be no point in these mechanics unless it was intended that sometimes the player would successfully click their RMB in time but their character was too slow to act. It seems to me it's not that block delay is unintended, but that there may still be some unintended factors that delay blocking MORE than what TW had in mind.

Ultimately, I don't think TW's intentions matter in determining whether the degree of block delay we currently have is okay or not. The feedback on this forum and what little combat feedback there is on reddit and the steam forums show that the vast majority of people willing to give their opinion do not like block delay. This poll currently has 70 votes (7 keep, 63 remove) which is probably like half of all the people who are actively playing Bannerlord MP so I would say it's a pretty good representation of the community's thoughts.

I really think its something unintended at this point, but TW has not communicated us whenever its an issue or not or they plan on changing the block delay or they find it good as it is.

I really don't get why

Taleworld's communication has always been pretty bad, but they've really dropped to a whole new tier since the beginning of EA. The stopped posting blogs (and few complained because I think most people were just happy to get the game finally), they posted those vague threads about things they were planning on doing sometime in the future that seem completely tone-deaf to what the community wants, the community managers post erratically, and the only dev interaction we get is from those who seem to be doing it out of their own freewill and desire (big props to those guys btw) rather than any obligation of interacting with their customers.

Interesting, I had noticed that on occasion, my block was in place for a considerable time but the sword went through it. Though it was far from any commonality in the gameplay I experienced.

We didn't reintroduce "block delay". There were no combat related changes in this regard recently.

To avoid confusion "block delay" is always there (it was in warband and it is in Bannerlord), but in Bannerlord the weight of a weapon makes your block be slower and the blending between the animation also has an affect. We are working on ways to make this better right now, but I can't share any details yet.

In any case there wasn't a reintroduction of block delay and we have no interest in making shadow changes to combat and not telling you guys.
What might have happened is that some other change is causing it. If that's so, we will investigate and fix it. It would be great if you could help us out about it.

Since which patch do you feel it?
(for the beta veterans) Can you share any details of how comparable it is to the older Beta versions?

I managed to find this from NIN3, it seems there are at least elements to the function of blocking right now that are not intended. He does however confirm that weight has an effect and blending between block animations has an effect.

I assume the latter is in reference to the location of the weapon before you block. No specifics on their direct functionality or to what degree they have an effect.

This was the original thread I found it in.

Its easy to dismiss polls on the forum because few people bother to vote, and the excuse that its a vocal minority that submits the feedback. Hell in my group I'm probably the only one checking the forum semi actively.
Luckily the way the ingame lobby is made, you can easily ask for feedback inside the game, that way everyone who plays can provide their feedback without having to go to a forum. Adding a link to a poll to replace the Patch notes link surely cant take much time. Add a scrolling bar so you can display both.
While in queue "Hey would you mind giving us some feedback while you wait for the next game? It'll only take a few minutes"
Easy.

This was proposed way back in the beta.

Tis a good idea. It would be a better system than this forum is for collecting user data with less self-selection bias.

Yeah I find it hilarious that the game was changed with the intent of making the aesthetic of combat more realistic from the spazz feinting of warband, but in the process they managed to make the mechanics less realistic to what they are in real life.

Realism being "better" for a game is a stupid argument as well, for a variety of reasons.

I personally know more than a dozen people who would begin playing Bannerlord again if they removed or severely improved the block delay. A lot of people told me Bannerlord failed stating the delay as one of the reasons.

If only I could apply all those hours of Warband into Bannerlord... It helps new-comers to the series, but I find that's the only upside to it. Maybe even replace it with a system such as a 2H sword needing to be swung at the right angle to have the best effect but keeping the speed up, like the dud-hits or glances you'd get in Warband.
