Lo-ho-holll. The closest thing I can imagine sort of working is that an arrow that accidentally hits the weapon would bounce off, but that would be preciously few arrows and hardly worth implementing at all.
Technically, back in the ol' era of Samurai and what-have-you, a sect of warriors was trained in the deflection of arrows, which is where George Lucas got the whole inspiration for the lightsaber-deflecting-blaster bolts. (Name and specific details elude me.)
That being said, its hardly worth implementing for the 1/1000 chance of it actually smacking against your sword.
Well, technically it's possible...
If I swing a sword and hit the arrow exactly right in mid flight I would deflect it in real life.
If it was implemented that way it would be so hard to do that I would consider it an honor to be killed by a twohander who can deflect all my arrows, just like it would be awesome to find someone who can deflect all my slashes with fists.
Tbh the relatively easy to do fist chamber on lancers is a lot more unrealistic.
Yes, but then why 2handers only and not one handers as well? And anyway that would involve swinging wildly in the vain hope of actually hitting the arrow. And even if deflected it might still hurt someone. It just doesn't seem worth the trouble of adding it, even if it is possible-but-unlikely.
swinging any larger weapon would be pretty futile, i mean yeh, if the thing came at a great distance, you MAYBE could predict it. But anything at medium range would be too fast for you to react and move the sword in the way all the time. You might get lucky, but very seldom.
1) Players complain 2H is OP and 1H isn't the last I checked, and ranged is the proposed counter. Not that I agree, but mob hysteria is a bit hard to argue with.
2) Your a trained soldier, not a samurai/ninja. You most certainly do not follow a code of conduct that which is a samurai's, nor do you follow Ninja philosophies like.. Iunno.. Not screaming out as you try to stab someone in the back with an over-sized knife? But to you, just cause they can do it, omg so can you. Hmm!
3) The only way archers wouldn't complain of something like this was with the coding requiring that an arrow must hit the blade, calculate speed, do damage to blade, and then bounce off.
A lot more, but I'll keep it at that.
Now, let's see. In real life, what about I take any object that approximates the piercing and weight of an arrow. You can use anything two handed, except a shield, to attempt to deflect it. Kind of like softball, really, except after trying to "deflect" a few "arrows" that bat/sword would turn into a feather-duster.
A way your idea could be implemented without being bull**** in terms of logic: Two handed weapons are huge affairs which are as big as two men. And even then, shooting it a couple of times would turn the blade useless if it were to penetrate it (The job of arrowheads), and your no way in hell deflecting. In fact, it becomes a shield that is literally useless. So... Still want it implemented? In fact, I'd like you to quote historic evidence that it can be done that doesn't rely on a sect of warriors without name or mention, and don't give me the bull**** about Alexander the Great ordering spearmen to... Ridiculous, I say.
For both gameplay and historic purposes, I say no.
TL;DR: Finished, no offense, but dun suggest random **** k. If you want it, suggest it for a mod, but otherwise, this idea fails to hell if applied in multiplayer.
Am I the only one who sees a river of tears and ragequit and rageforums should this be implemented? Always goes this way:
(Rather off topic)
1H NO SHIELD: OMG 2H OP BRAKE MAH SHEEELD
1H SHIELD: OMG ARCHERS OP CANNOT BLOCK WAI
2H NO SHIELD: OMG WAAAH WAAAH ARCHERS SPAM AND 1H SPAM TOO THEY NUB I TOO PRO
2H SHIELD: OMG ARCHERS OP FORCE ME USE SHIELD AND SPEND MONEY FOR WEAPON WHY
ARCHERS: OMG YOU GUYS STOP CRYING LIKE WE HAVE A CHANCE IN MELEE IF YOUR ANY GOOD
CROSSBOWMEN: OMG YOU GUYS STOP CRYING WE SHOOT AND RELOAD FOR ****
Fist-fighters: We're the only people without any complaints cause unlike the others, only people who care about playing instead of playing to win in every underhand way possible will play one of us. Let's have a tea party.
